Oprah, Common, Spike Lee & Other Celebrities Who Attended HBCUs

*HBCU grads Will Packer and David E. Talbert have combined their power and prowess as they embarked on bringing to life the family Christmas film of the year with “Almost Christmas.” The film stars Danny Glover as a beloved patriarch who asks his family members for one gift this holiday season: to get along. If they can honor that wish and spend five days under the same roof without killing one another, it will be a Christmas miracle.

Talbert serves as director of the film, with Packer producing through Will Packer Productions. David is a graduate of Morgan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in marketing. He also attended the New York University film program. Will attended Florida A&M University, and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.

Some of your favorite artists and entrepreneurs also attended HBCUs, and below is a list of celebs you may not have known about, including Oprah Winfrey. She attended Tennessee State University on a full scholarship and majored in speech communications and performing arts.

Rapper 2 Chainz is a graduate from Alabama State University. The G.O.O.D. music artist went on to graduate with a 4.0 GPA and on a full scholarship!

David Banner
David Banner

David Banner obtained his business degree from Southern University, and pursued a masters of education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He started his music career as a member of the rap duo, Crooked Lettaz, before going solo in 2000 with the release titled Them Firewater Boyz, Vol. 1. The “Get Like Me” rapper/producer is also an occasional actor and activist.

Writer/director Spike Lee has a BA in Mass Communication from Morehouse College. He began his career during his undergrad while filming a student project, and he currently owns the production company 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks.
