Harris was initially hesitant to take her part in “Moonlight” due to concerns about driving negative stereotypes about black women, but thankfully, she was won over after reading the script and discovering its immense quality of storytelling. Her performance is a full-bodied and rich display of a women who is trapped between the love she has for  her child and drug addiction.

Ultimately, it provided Harris with an opportunity to portray a character who is very much unlike any that she had played before and has propelled her to the front lines for major accolades during the coming awards season.

The AAFCA Report caught up with the actress to talk about her role in the ground breaking movie that is breaking box office records in limited release.
