“Soul Food” vet Vanessa Williams has signed on to play the character that was originally part of a groundbreaking storyline in the 1970s when she was one half of daytime’s first interracial couple.

Today, the character is a well-respected cardiologist, who returns to Salem to attend to her old friend, and old flame, Abe Carver (James Reynolds), according to Deadline.

Williams’ most recent work includes a recurring role on CW’s “The Flash,” a lead role on TV One’s “The Secret She Kept,” as well as a recurring guest arc in the upcoming Freeform series “Famous in Love” starring Bella Thorne.

Williams’ first appearance on “Days of Our Lives” will be on the October 25 episode.
