*The latest edition of The AAFCA Report presented by EURweb will introduce you to the stars of “Loving,” the new Focus Features film that depicts the lives of Richard and Mildred Loving, a Virginia couple whose marriage violated anti-miscegenation laws in America.

Married in 1958, the couple were subjected to one year in prison that was suspended for 25 years on condition that they leave the state.

After the couple altered the Attorney General (Robert Kennedy) to their circumstances, they successfully mounted a case against with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) that resulted in legal arguments that led all the way to the Supreme Court who ruled in their favor and invalidated all laws that opposed interracial marriage.

The film, simple titled LOVING stars’ Australian actor, Joel Edgerton (best known for roles in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002), Warrior (2011), The Thing (2011), Zero Dark Thirty (2012) and The Great Gatsby (2013) and Ethiopian-Irish actress Ruth Negga who is known for the BBC mini-series Criminal Justice and ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

She currently stars as Tulip O’Hare in AMC’s “Preacher.” Both actors are being highly praised for their performances and the word in the industry has them both on the short-list for Oscar-nominations.

Directed by Jeff Nichols, the movie follows the couple starting with their courtship, on through their subsequent marriage and the court case that transformed American life.

Intrigued by the story since the start of its production in 2015, the African American Film Critics Association has championed it since its North American unveiling at the Toronto Film Festival, on through to its red-carpet world premiere at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences.
