*It’s gonna be a minute before we get to see Ava DuVernay’s take on “A Wrinkle in Time.” But in announcing the release date, the director gave us an elaborate, flawless, 102-member, behind-the-scenes mannequin challenge to hold us over.
The “Selma” and “Queen Sugar” filmmaker revealed Monday that her adaptation of the children’s classic – starring rising actress Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Zach Galifianakis, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine and Gugu Mbatha-Raw – will hit theaters on April 6, 2018.
Reid stars in the tale as Meg Murry, a young girl traumatized by the disappearance of her scientist father (Pine) years before.
She finds herself on an interplanetary journey with a schoolmate and her younger brother to find her father. They are aided by a trio of supernatural beings: Mrs. Whatsit (Witherspoon), Mrs. Who (Kaling) and Mrs. Which (Winfrey).
In the 2 min, 45 second mannequin challenge below, the spring 2018 release date is cleverly revealed at the very end:
