*Ebony® Magazine, the curator of the African-American experience, past, present and future, today announced its 2016 Ebony Power 100 Gala presented by Nationwide.

Scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on Dec. 1, the famed gala will be held at one of tinsel town’s most historic landmarks, The Beverly Hilton.

For a fifth consecutive year, Nationwide will proudly present the prestigious affair to celebrate honorees on the 2016 Ebony Power 100 list.

Ebony marked its 71st Anniversary with four striking covers graced by Ava DuVernay, John Legend, Nas and Simone Biles for the Power 100 issue. Each year the Ebony team selects the 100 most influential Black leaders in the country.

These achievers have made noteworthy accomplishments over the past year.  The list of outstanding leaders highlights individuals from a variety of fields, including business, medicine, sports, media, religion, the creative arts and more. As the curator of the Black experience, Ebony is proud to showcase these individuals.

Among the game changers honored on this year’s Ebony Power 100 list are Nike executive Trevor Edwards, Procter & Gamble’s William P. Gipson and FedEx’s Matt Thornton.

Beyoncé, NFL player Colin Kaepernick, comedian Kevin Hart, tennis champion Serena Williams, singer Solange, artist Chance The Rapper, NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony, Web-turned-television star Issa Rae are also being lauded for their accomplishments.

“Nationwide congratulates the distinguished honorees of the 2016 Ebony Power 100 list,” said Nationwide Chief Marketing Officer, Terrance Williams.

“We celebrate the leadership that members of the current and past Power 100 list have demonstrated through their work and the accomplishments they’ve achieved that are making a difference in the lives of so many.”

Hosting the star-studded evening will be charismatic actor and comedian Cedric The Entertainer. Cedric is best known for his crowd-pleasing performances in hit films & television shows such as the  “Barbershop” film franchise; the top-ranking “Madagascar” animated franchise, and as one of the stars of the powerhouse record-breaking tour turned film classic “The Original Kings of Comedy”.

Additionally, his role as ‘Coach Cedric Robinson’ on long-running #1- ranked network series “The Steve Harvey Show” remains an audience favorite. Cedric is also acclaimed for a starring role in his own hit comedy series, “The Soul Man” on TV Land as well as Netflix Comedy Special “Cedric The Entertainer: Live From The Ville.”

Legendary revered actress Cicely Tyson will befittingly receive this year’s coveted EBONY Lifetime Achievement Award. Known for having built a successful career by carefully choosing roles that exemplified quality and depth, Ms. Tyson further selected roles that send positive messages to women of color.

Also receiving an EBONY Lifetime Achievement Award are Philip Bailey, Verdine White and Ralph Johnson of Earth, Wind & Fire a super group known for carving out their unique sound by meshing jazz, funk, soul, R&B, disco, pop and rock. Earth, Wind & Fire remains one of the most musically accomplished, critically acclaimed and commercially popular funk bands of the 70’s.

Accepting the EBONY Icon Award is music legend Nile Rodgers, co-founder alongside Bernard Edwards, of CHIC. Rodgers amplifies his legacy as a multiple Grammy Award-winning composer, producer, arranger, and guitarist. As a cultural icon and music innovator with more than 200 production credits to his name, Nile Rodgers transcends all styles of music across every generation.

In addition to Nationwide as the presenting sponsor, EBONY Power 100 Gala sponsors and partners include Hilton as the exclusive Hotel partner, United as the official airline partner and Cadillac as the exclusive automotive partner.

Red carpet guests will have the opportunity to interact with the famous Twitter Mirror, a device known to assist celebrities in taking the perfect “selfie” photo and send it through @EbonyMag and #EBONYPower100.
