Having seen the amazing 2011 HBO documentary “The Loving Story,” the film “Loving” takes that drama to another level. Joel Edgerton award worthy performance as Richard Loving nails Richard and Ruth Negga’s commanding performance as Mildred Loving will no doubt bring her many trophies. The Lovings landmark’s decision that allowed couples to marry regardless of their race is what propels this story, but love is the wings beneath this story.
Mildred (black) and Richard (white) married in 1958 in Virginia are imprisoned because mixed race couples are not allowed to marry. Agreeing to relocate to Washington, D.C., they are released. Because Mildred wants to return to her hometown, she initiates legal proceedings to fight the state of Virginia to get the law overturned.
“Loving” could not be in better hands than that of esteemed filmmaker Jeff Nichols. Michael Shannon and Terri Abney also star.
‘Doctor Strange’
Marvel has done it again! ‘Doctor Strange’ is already a blockbuster his overseas and audiences are just loving it—and for good reasons. Benedict Cumberbatch is the egotistical superb neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange injured in an accident. His prized hands are destroyed and he will go to no lengths to restore them. Told about mysticism that restored a paralyzed man to full bodily function, Strange seeks to dabble in wizardry.
It is in Kamar-Taj, Nepal where Strange meets The Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) and Wong (Benedict Wong) that school him. Strange becomes a powerful wizard and all hell breaks loose. With eye boggling special effects and Dr. Strange literally in your face because of 3D, moviegoers are in for a great ride.
Directed by Scott Derrickson, “Doctor Strange” also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, and Benjamin Bratt. Be forewarned, if you leave the theater before all the end of all the credits, you will miss some important clues to the sequel.
