*Once our new president is sworn into office, she or [God forbid] he will instantly take over the @POTUS Twitter account and President Obama’s 11.1 million followers.

But what will happen to all of Obama’s past tweets under that account? He will leave office in January with far more digital content to archive than any previous president, as he was the first White House occupant to grab @POTUS on Twitter.

He was also the first to use a Snapchat filter, the first to use Facebook Live, and more.

The White House announced this week that Obama’s complete Twitter history will be moved over to a new handle, @POTUS44, by the National Archives and Records Administration.

The same will take place with Obama’s Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram accounts, along with other Twitter accounts including Michelle Obama’s @FLOTUS and Joe Biden’s @VP accounts.

The White House says thousands of hours of video and millions of photos are in the process of being transferred to digital archives. Eventually, they’ll be available to download in compact forms like zip files.

@POTUS will be made available to the 45th President on January 20, 2017.
