A Quick Look Inside the $5.3 Million D.C. Home the Obamas Will be Moving Into

*As we reported all the way back in May, the Obamas have decided on a post-White House home. However, we’re just now getting to see all of the beauty the Obama’s new Washington, DC, residence has to offer.

In the last year, the election has prompted President Barack Obama and his family to begin the transition to life after the presidency. The First Family’s first step was to choose a beautiful home not too far from where they’re now living.

The family will be renting their new home, which is located just a short drive from the White House in the affluent Kalorama neighborhood.

According to Washington Fine Properties, the Obamas chose a “sprawling Tudor home” located at 2446 Belmont Road, and the home has all of the amenities a former president and First Lady might need:

Historic 1920s’s residence situated on an oversized home site. This 2011 meticulous renovation & substantial addition features gracious public rooms, 8-9BR/8.5 spa baths w/exquisite finishes, fully finished lower level w/au-pair suite, and approx. 8200 finished sq.ft. Stunning oversized terrace/formal gardens, 2 car gar parking & gated courtyard for 8-10 vehicles.

Though the gorgeous brick home sits close to the street, it comes complete with private entrances, automated gates, and a large parking area for secret service vehicles.

The home stands at 8,200 square feet, and although it’s a bit smaller than their White House dwelling, it’s just as beautiful.

The interior of the house has been described as clean and traditional, but still possessing some contemporary flair.

The Obamas will be renting their new home from Joe Lockhart, who served as press secretary during Bill Clinton’s presidency.

While 40% of homeowners across the U.S. plan on renovating sometime in the next year, the Obamas might not stick around long enough to complete any renovations. While the house is gorgeous and suits the family’s needs, it’s been reported that they only plan to stay until their youngest daughter, Sasha, completes high school.

Malia, on the other hand, has already been accepted to Harvard and will begin her education there in the fall of 2017.

Once both of their daughters are in college, it’s difficult to determine where the Obamas will go next, although they have hinted at wanting to do more work with My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, which aims to improve the lives of Black and Latino boys in the D.C. area.
