Streets Blocked at Fisk; Flags Burned at American University Over Election of Trump

*Protests have erupted across at least two universities in reaction to the election of Donald Trump.

Some students at Fisk University in Tennessee have walked out of class and shut down streets to protest the president-elect, bigotry and injustice.

Earlier today, a student representative told WSMV that students were planning to walk out of class at 2 p.m. and gather at the statue of W.E.B. Du Bois at the corner of 17th Avenue and Jackson Street. The group then planned to walk to the state Capitol to “shut it down.”

Around 3 p.m., there were reports that Charlotte Pike in front of the Capitol was blocked by some 100 protestors. The Metro Transit Authority was detouring buses from the area.

Meanwhile, students at American University in Washington D.C. also protested the election of Trump on Tuesday.

Coeds who gathered outside the school were heard yelling “F*** Trump.”

During the protest, a struggle broke out when some students began to burn several small flags.
