*Designers usually clamor to dress first ladies, but Melania Trump appears to be an exception.

Earlier this month, French designer Sophie Theallet put it out there that she has no intention of working with Donald Trump’s wife “in any way.” This morning, Tom Ford also said that he will not dress Mrs. Trump, and added that he also refused to dress her back in the day.

“I was asked to dress her quite a few years ago and I declined … She’s not necessarily my image,” Ford said on Wednesday’s episode of “The View.”

The high-end fashion designer and film director, whose least expensive items run from $2,000 to $3,500, said that no first lady or woman in power should be wearing such pricey designs.

“And the first lady — other than the fact that I’m a Democrat and voted for Hillary [Clinton] and very sad and disappointed that she’s not in office — even had Hillary won, she shouldn’t be wearing my clothes,” Ford said. “They’re too expensive. And I don’t mean this in a bad way … [she needs] to relate to everybody.”

Co-host Joy Behar noted that Ford has provided gowns for current first lady Michelle Obama. Ford, who lives in London, said he dressed her just once, when she attended Buckingham Palace for dinner with the Queen: “I thought that was appropriate and I was honored.”

The fickle British press couldn’t praise this look enough.

The Telegraph’s Hilary Alexander wrote that Mrs. O “played a masterstroke in trans-Atlantic style. She shimmered in an ivory ‘goddess’ gown by the American designer, Tom Ford, which underscored the ‘special relationship’ between the two countries.” Alexander explained that choosing Ford made sense, because Ford is an American headquartered in London and shows his top secret women’s collections exclusively in New York and London.

The Daily Mail said the dress was “her most stunning look yet” and noted that it recalled the famous white one-shouldered Jason Wu she wore on the night of her hubby’s inauguration.
