*In a fur coat and pom-pom hat supporting her hometown Detroit Lions, Aretha Franklin sat at a piano in Ford Field before her team’s Thanksgiving Day game against the Vikings and delivered what just might be the longest national anthem in history.
The song usually takes about 2 minutes to sing. Aretha’s lasted approximately 4 minutes and 35 glorious seconds – as any Aretha version of the Star Spangled Banner should…right?
While Twitter pretty much agreed that the 74-year-old Queen of Soul slayed the vocals, the extended, jazzed-up, run-infused, 12-inch remix of it all became fodder for folks online.
Twitter couldn’t help itself:
Mom: Can u go to the store and buy some milk?
Me: I can’t the game is about to start
Aretha Franklin: I got u fam
