*Baptist Academy situated in Obanikoro, Lagos was founded by J.M. HARDEN in 1855. It is one of the oldest missionary schools in Nigeria (the most populous African nation), solely funded by the Nigerian Baptist mission.
Over the years, professional and business alumni students from the institution found the need to give back to the school by helping to raise funds to support the school, a way of giving back with appreciation. Baptist Academy as it is famously called or “Baptacads” stemming out of its successes in School sports.
Its football competition against other schools is legendary. Baptist Academy Old students’ association (BAOSA) has been formed all around the world to where many have relocated through the years including the United States. It has Lanre Idowu as its National president in Nigeria.
BAOSA UK was formed in the year 2003 and Dele Dada is the current president. It is currently made up of eight committee members. BAOSA UK organized a fundraising event in Kent Southeast England, to educate Nigerian children and in particular, those who are fortunate to be attending the school itself.
Financial secretary Bimbo Odebiyi stated that reasons for the event “is to educate future leaders of tomorrow and actualize projects of refurbishing science laboratories and procuring science equipment.”
The fund raising night was attended by old students of different year groups, some of whom have not seen each other in years. Many wore with pride, the distinct blue, white and red colors either as bow ties or scarves around their necks. There were stalls, music, arts, food and dance and funds were raised that night for a worthy cause. For further information contact BAOSA UK – [email protected]
