*“60 Minutes Sports” sat down with former NBA player Jayson Williams, who spent 26 months in prison for murdering his limo driver and now calls himself a “coward” for attempting to cover it up.

Costas “Gus” Christofi, who had been chauffeuring Williams and his friends around town for a wild night out, was accidentally shot to death by the NBA veteran at his New Jersey estate. Williams was handling one of his many shotguns when he accidentally shot Christofi in the chest.

After a series of deadlocked juries and retrials Williams pled guilty to aggravated assault in the rifle death in 2010, and was found guilty on four counts of attempting to cover up his role in Christofi’s death.

“The way I acted after the accident was being a coward. That bothers me,” Williams told “60 Minutes Sports” in an interview that airs Tuesday, Dec. 6. “The cover up was selfishness…me trying to protect myself.”

Williams served an 18-month prison sentence and was released in April 2012. He subsequently battled alcoholism and says he would drink “a fifth of moonshine” at the peak of his problems. He entered rehab center Epiphany and spent 30 days there before deciding to stay indefinitely.

“I’ve quit trying to protect myself. I just try to live right and let the pieces fall where they may,” Williams said. “That’s my only job, to be sober…I don’t know what happened yesterday. I know I was sober. I damn sure don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow.”

The episode of “60 Minutes Sports” featuring Williams airs on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. on Showtime.
