*The cookbook released earlier this year by Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy may be full of recipes one can whip up while incarcerated, but prisoners in at least one state won’t have access to the material.
According to TMZ, “Commissary Kitchen: My Infamous Prison Cookbook” has been banned by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
The book, which features recipes created by Prodigy (real name Albert Johnson) during his 3 1/2 year stint in prison, contains one concoction in violation of the rules: prison wine.
As stated in the letter obtained by TMZ, “inmate manufactured alcohol” is prohibited.
As previously reported, “Commissary Kitchen” is described as a “touching and funny collection of prison recipes and memories about life on the inside.”
Other dishes include “P’s Jail Break,” with Ramen noodles and Doritos, and “Good as (expletive) Seafood,” featuring cans of calamari, octopus and peas.
The book also includes his take on dealing with unhealthy prison food three times a day while trying to manage sickle cell anemia, a condition he’s had since childhood.
Prodigy plugged his book on TMZ Live shortly after the book’s release in October. (He didn’t mention the prison wine.)
