Pretty Yende: South African Opera Star Wows Wendy Williams and Her Audience (WATCH)

*If you haven’t heard, Pretty Yende is a sensational young South African soprano opera singer whose career has risen to the top of the opera world with unparalleled speed within the past few years.

Earlier this week, Yende stopped by the “Wendy Williams Show” and performed a breathtaking rendition of “Una Voce Poco Fa.”

Wearing a floral Dolce & Gabbana cocktail dress, the gracious songbird received a standing ovation from the audience after her performance.

Later during a segment called After Show: Meet Pretty Yende, Williams revealed to the 31-year-old singer that she was deeply affected by her performance.

“Your performance moved me to tears, but I already teared-up earlier in the show talking about Mary Tyler Moore. So I chased the tears back, because if I cry twice in one show you’ll will think I’m crazy. So I didn’t [tear up],” Williams told Yende.

Born in the small town of Piet Retief, about two hundred miles from Johannesburg, Yende’s journey to become one of the world’s most sought-after singers is like a modern fairy-tale.

She was initially introduced to singing in a manner familiar to many South Africans – in her church choir. Then at the age of sixteen, she heard the Flower Duet from Lakmé on a British Airways television advertisement, and was so enraptured by its beauty that she determined to find out what it was. On learning that it was opera, she decided at that moment to abandon her plans to become an accountant, and train to become an opera singer instead.

Pretty Yende’s debut album “A Journeyis available now. She is currently starring in “The Barber of Seville” at the Metropolitan Opera. She will appear in “Romeo and Juliet in March.
