Power Rangers Cast Talks First Gay Super Hero (EUR Exclusive – WATCH)

*”It’s Morphin Time,” as the release of the highly anticipated Power Ranger‘s movie will hit theaters in just a few hours. The red carpet for the premiere was held at the Bruin, Westwood Village Regency Theater on Wednesday, March 22.

EURweb associate Kiki Ayers was on the scene to talk to the cast of the movie. The film made headlines when Lionsgate released a statement on Monday that the movie would feature Hollywood’s first gay superhero played by Becky G, the yellow ranger.

“To me it’s an honor. It’s something that I’m really proud of and not only am I really proud of it but a part of me is like what the hell, what too so long?” she said. “I don’t get why there’s so many headlines, how can we make a movie for the people, without acknowledging people being people.”

22 year old RJ Cyler said though Becky could speak on it more than him, he feels like it’s a really cool thing that Power Rangers were the first one to decide that they would make a movie that would have some representation of everyone in it.

“That’s what makes it cool. Everybody can relate to somebody,” said Cyler.

The original Power Rangers were also in attendance including original black Power Ranger Walter Jones. He told us that having a gay superhero in a movie 20 years ago wouldn’t have happened and the fact that it’s happening now shows how much this movie is attributing to diversity.

The movie, which will hit theaters everywhere on Friday, March 24th comes over years after the original movie. The film focuses on 5 strangers that are considered “troubled teens,” who find a space ship and wake up with superhero powers. They learn their destiny is to be Power Rangers and to save the world.
