According to the New York Daily News, a cab driver swiped the singer’s travel bag full of pricey items shortly after his arrival at JFK airport. Cops were able to use surveillance video to find the thief, and John’s bag was returned.

Briefly out of Legend’s possession was a pair of Cartier Panther cuff links with clear and green stones, valued at $30,000; clothing valued at $500, and a $500 pair of eyeglasses that were all in the bag, according to TMZ.

Legend had just got off a flight from France when his bag was taken at around 9 p.m. Thursday. A Delta greeter is said to have left it on the luggage cart by mistake. According to reports, the cabbie caught with the stolen goods “has had multiple problems with the law at JFK.”

Port Authority cops viewed surveillance footage of the theft and quickly identified the suspect as Agusto Hilario, 64, who they describe as a “cabbie hustler” often arrested for illegally picking up fares, the Daily News reported.

Hilario is so well known to Port Authority cops that one of them called his cellphone shortly after he was identified from the video and told him to bring the bag back.

“He said he was going to return it to the lost and found,” said one law enforcement source. “We told him to bring it to us — then we arrested him.”

Charges against Hilario were pending Friday.
