*Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin‘s name is being run through the mud because he’s under investigation for sexual assault.
Irvin, 51, who’s also and analyst/commentator for the NFL Network, is denying the accusations. He was also accused of sexual assault in 2007 (scroll down for more on that story).
According to a TMZ Sports report, Irvin was out at a bar with a woman who went back to his hotel room at the W hotel in Ft. Lauderdale on March 21. She says she felt sick and the last thing she remembered was fighting Irvin off. She subsequently called 911 because she thought she was drugged and raped. She also took a medical exam. The woman says she also texted Irvin, asking him if they had sex. She says he responded saying that he wouldn’t do anything to hurt her.
Meanwhile, Irvin’s attorney, Larry Friedman, says he was “blindsided” by the accusations. Here’s what the ex-NFLer is saying about his time with the evening/night in question: He says he was out at a bar until 4:30am with a group of people including the woman. He went back to his room with the woman and another man and only stayed briefly before leaving to catch an early-morning flight. He claims nothing sexual happened.

Attorney Friedman provided the following statement:
“Michael was in Ft. Lauderdale visiting his nieces and nephews at a track meet. He was also visiting his 90-year-old aunt and attending her birthday party. He was blindsided by news of these allegations.”
Friedman also added:
“The allegations are completely false. In the few hours since we’ve learned about them we’ve already discovered many red flags about this young woman’s background and the allegations she made against Michael. Even the complaint that she made specifically says she does not recall the events that took place. She was very drunk that night. Nothing happened and there was no assault.”
Bottom line: police are investigating.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Michael Irvin has been accused of sexual assault. 🙁
In 2010 the Huffington Post reported that Irvin had been accused of rape, according to an article at the Miami Herald. A woman sued the Hall of Fame receiver for an alleged July 2007 sexual assault.
According to the lawsuit, Irvin got the woman drunk before he and an accomplice demanded that she perform sexual acts. The Herald adds:
That’s when the unidentified man held her down and covered her mouth, according to the suit, then Irvin raped her, she said. When Irvin was done, the other man forced her to perform oral sex.
No criminal charges have been filed. In late 1996 and early 1997, a woman accused Irvin and a teammate of raping her during a cocaine-fueled assault. The allegation was later determined to be fabricated. In 2005 Irvin was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
