*Taye Diggs is headed back to ABC to star in the network’s drama pilot “Doomsday.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the drama is set in the aftermath of Sept. 11, when the U.S. government instituted a secret think tank comprised of the most creative minds in science and entertainment who were tasked solely with dreaming up manmade disaster scenarios and their possible solutions. The ideas they invented were so dangerous that the list was sealed and the program shut down. But when a catastrophe occurs that seems ripped from the pages of the missing doomsday book, the team is brought back years later to prevent the disasters of their own making.

Diggs takes the lead as Dr. Davis Albright, an engineer and architect who at one point was the youngest-ever head of disaster prevention for FEMA and the ex-husband to Elle Trask (currently uncast).

Diggs was last on ABC in Shonda Rhimes’ drama “Private Practice.” His other TV credits include Fox’s “Empire,” TNT’s “Murder in the First” and episodes of Fox’s “Rosewood” and CBS’ “The Good Wife.”

“Justified’s” Mark Bianculli and VJ Boyd are writing the “Doomsday” script for Sony Pictures Television and will exec produce alongside “CSI” alum Carol Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz.
