Girl Chat: Are You Afraid To Let Yourself Go?

Adrienne Houghton: This is real life you guys, like I saw photos of myself and was like, “I don’t like the way I look.” And I would talk to you guys about it, but I didn’t know that that was even happening or that I had let myself go. I just woke up one day and was like, “Oh my God!”

Tamera Mowry-Housley: I will tell you this though, what I did notice was that you were really happy last year. Do you know what I mean? So that’s what I was focusing on. I wasn’t focusing on your body. I was happy that I saw you the happiest I’ve ever seen you.

[The Real audience cheers and claps.]

Adrienne: … But you get what I’m saying? But I’m scared, we always talk about talking kids and I love that Tamera is so honest. Oh, I love that we have real woman conversations together so like we talk about, “Okay, you’re going to gain this weight.” And yes I do want to plan to have a family, but that’s like my biggest fear. Right now, is that like I’ll wake up one day and not feel like myself. Or I’ll be like, “Oh my God, I completely let myself go.”  And yes, comments are harsh you guys.

Tamera: Yeah they are.

Adrienne: Like they’re really harsh. Like, it’s hard. So imagine, if I’m going to have a child. If I’m going to go on that journey, to wake up one day and not feel like myself, to feel like I’ve let myself go, to feel like, “Oh my God, I haven’t dyed my hair. I haven’t taken care of myself.” I almost want to just be conscious of not letting go, so I’ll find myself somewhere in the middle. Does that make sense?

Tamera: That makes sense.

Jeannie Mai: Yes it does.

Loni Love: It’s just going to be a process you know? And I’m going to tell you something ’cause I don’t want you to get upset. When you gain ten pounds, I’ll gain ten pounds. That way I’ll always look bigger than you sitting here, okay? You don’t have to worry about that.

[The Real audience claps.]

About The Real

THE REAL is a daily, one-hour Emmy® nominated talk show on Fox Television Stations and in national syndication (check local listings), with a rebroadcast on cable network BET. Led by bold, diverse and outspoken hosts – Adrienne Houghton, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai and Tamera Mowry-Housley — these women reflect the home audience and unapologetically say what women are actually thinking. Their unique perspectives are brought to life through their candid conversations about topics ranging from their own personal lives to the news of the day to beauty, fashion and relationships. Emmy® nominated for Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment in its second season, THE REAL is unlike other talk shows, since each of the hosts are admittedly a “work in progress,” and fearlessly invites the viewers into their lives. Their fresh points of view, youthful energy and passion have turned the traditional talk show on its head. Produced by Telepictures Productions and distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, The Real originates from Los Angeles. Rachel Miskowiec (Good Morning America, Katie, The Tyra Banks Show, Judge Hatchett, The Ricki Lake Show) is Executive Producer.
