‘Wilson’ is All About Truth Says Woody Harrelson and Laura Dern (WATCH)

*Woody Harrelson (“White Men Can’t Jump,” “War for of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Hunger Games”) and Laura Dern (“Big Little Lies,” “Jurassic Park,” “Rambling Rose”) star in the quirky film “Wilson.”

Based on the film’s content, I asked the two at the Whitby Hotel in New York, what is there about “Wilson” they want to resonate with audiences?

“You hope to make films that are about how complicated and lonely and tender and filled with longing it is to be a human being,” Dern replied.

“From that place it, in it’s own way, becomes a message for anybody seeing it,” she went on to say. “Whatever that message is for them. That’s one hope. I think it resonates this question of the truth versus lies. Boy, do we buy con men in this country more than ever.”

So, Woody, that basically describes your character, Wilson, as a truth giver?

“I think that he’s a guy who really doesn’t have a lot of censors,” he says. “I think most of us, on a daily basis, maybe many times a day, hold back things we would like to say. It’s like, ‘Good. I didn’t say that.’ I personally don’t have quite the filter I should have. Sometimes I will say things I shouldn’t say, but I’m not like Wilson. Wilson really says sh!t. Like, did he really say that?”

Wilson (Harrelson) is a lonely, neurotic honest middle-aged misfit who reunites with his ex-wife (Dern) and a chance at happiness when he learns he has a teenaged daughter (Isabella Amara) he never met and sets out to connect with her.

Directed by Craig Johnson, the film also stars Judy Greer, Cheryl Hines, and Margo Martindale.
