‘The Get Down’ Cast (Herizen Guardiola, Shameik Moore, and Justice Smith) Talk Season 2 (EUR Exclusive)

Herizen Guardiola, Shameik Moore, and Justice Smith, stars of the highly anticipated second season of the popular Netflix series “The Get Down,” were at the Edition Hotel in New York City to promote their show.

Of course, the first question was what should we expect this season?

“Well, there’s a time jump,” Smith explained, “and it shows where the ‘Get Down’ brothers are at now that they’ve had this success with their music.

“Where Mylene is at with her disco career. Like, the rocky world of business, the dangers of business, the dangers of trying to balance your love life and the things you want to do with your life, and not really knowing which path you should take, or where you should direct your attention. And also, part two, we have a lot more cool music, and a lot more high stakes.”

Why do you think this show has been so successful?

SHAMEIK MOORE:  It’s affecting culture, enlightening the people, and enlightening the youth. Making the old heads feel young again. Touching the world, affecting the world positively.

JUSTICE SMITH:  That’s a great answer.

HERIZEN GUARDIOLA:  He said it all.

How do you relate to your character and keep it real?

SM: I think the key to being a good actor is to relate to your character to some degree. And how you do that is just finding yourself within the character. For me, that was just hanging around Grand Master Flash and spending time with the cast and getting everything together. Focusing in on what Shaolin is within me.

HG: I would say me and Mylene are not that similar. I kinda have more of like a tomboy persona. I rarely wear makeup or dresses, ever. I’m like tee shirt and jeans. I really had to become girly for this character, which was new for me. I don’t usually reveal that much skin.

JS: My character is a very sensitive young man.

And so I try to play with having this deep well of emotion but then trying to cover it up and then not being successful at that because he has such a big heart and such a deep well why he’s an artist.

Baz Luhrmann’s hit hip hop series has struck a chord and Season II is sure to keep the music hot and heavy.
