Loni: A few of your tweets have gotten some backlash and we’d like to give you the opportunity to clarify it girl, alright? Now in March you tweeted, “Phobia is a fear. I’m not afraid of homosexuals, nor do I hate them. I respect and love EVERYONE.” That was great, you know?

[The Real audience claps.]

Loni: Then you responded to a fan, you said, “I chose to be heterosexual after being homosexual for two years.” Now people took this as you saying that…

La’Porsha Renae: Everybody gets to choose.

Loni: [Continued]… Exactly.

La’Porsha: When people ask me a personal question, I answer it in a personal way. I can only speak from the footsteps and the shoes that I’ve walked in. We have so many variations that make us who we are. And uh the reason I even went towards uh homosexuality at first, is because I was raped, I was molested, I was abused. I saw a lot of people around me going through the same thing with men, so I told myself, “I’m not going to be with a man, I’m going to be with a woman.” And then I just you know, kind of found my spirituality. I found you know, a belief system that worked for me and I said you know what, “I actually do want to give you know, being with men another chance.” And I didn’t want those experiences to define any experience that I would have as bad with a man, so I chose to go… But that’s me, you know I never said that everybody gets to choose. I mean, I never said that. I never spoke for anybody but myself.

About The Real
THE REAL is a daily, one-hour Emmy® and NAACP Image Award nominated talk show on Fox Television Stations and in national syndication (check local listings), with a rebroadcast on cable network BET. Led by bold, diverse and outspoken Emmy® nominated hosts – Adrienne Houghton, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai and Tamera Mowry-Housley — these women reflect the home audience and unapologetically say what women are actually thinking. Their unique perspectives are brought to life through their candid conversations about topics ranging from their own personal lives to the news of the day to beauty, fashion and relationships. THE REAL is unlike other talk shows, since each of the hosts are admittedly a “work in progress,” and fearlessly invites the viewers into their lives. Their fresh points of view, youthful energy and passion have turned the traditional talk show on its head. Produced by Telepictures Productions and distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, The Real originates from Los Angeles. Rachel Miskowiec (Good Morning America, Katie, The Tyra Banks Show, Judge Hatchett, The Ricki Lake Show) is Executive Producer.
