*We knew Kyrie Irving was unhappy in Cleveland and wanted out. Well, the Cavaliers obliged him, but it’s where he’s going that’s kind of a surprise … to some.
If you haven’t heard, the Cleveland Cavaliers traded Irving, their superstar point guard to the Boston Celtics. In return, the Celtics gave up their star point guard Isaiah Thomas and several other players.
Being from West Orange, N.J., Irving reportedly wanted to be traded to New York as well as either the Spurs, Heat or Timberwolves . However, as far as the Knicks were concerned, the team’s new front office denied any proposals that included Kristaps Porzingis, reports the NY Daily News.
However, if you were paying attention, you know that several weeks ago, former Cavs GM David Griffin revealed that the high-scoring point guard was considering teams with “really good coaching situations” like … Boston.

“This is a guy whose list included really good coaching situations — Brad Stevens and (Gregg) Popovich,” Griffin said on ESPN’s “The Jump.” “The teams on his list — Gordon Hayward in Boston and Kawhi Leonard in San Antonio — he would be accompanied by other great players, so it’s not like he’s asking to lead a ragtag bunch.”
The deal keeps both Cleveland and Boston as the conference’s top two teams and adds another element of drama to a rivalry that has usually centered around LeBron James. Cleveland ousted Boston in the Eastern Conference Finals, 4-1, with Irving posting 31 points in the final game.
By the way, Boston is reportedly also dealing Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and Brooklyn’s 2018 first-round draft pick to the Cavs.
