*Hip hop legend DJ Premier took his turntables to NPR for its acclaimed Tiny Desk series on Monday (Aug 21), becoming the first DJ to perform a set in its famously-cramped office space.
“How many real hip-hoppers in the place right now,” he began his set behind the ones and twos, before launching into a nine-track medley of his greatest hits, accompanied by the Badder Band.
KRS-One’s “Attacks” kicked off the medley as Badder Band members Mark Williams and Jonathan Powell interjected horns. From there, Premier transitioned into KRS-One’s “MC’s Act Like They Don’t Know” adding his own adlibs to the classic track.
Later, Preemo chopped and screwed Nas‘ 90s cut “Nas Is Like,” calling on the NPR audience to participate in a chant while creating space for each of the Badder Band horn players to rock a solo.
Premier closed by rapping along with “Moment Of Truth” from Gang Starr.
