*A van plowed down a crowd of pedestrians in a popular tourist area of Barcelona, Spain on Thursday, resulting in at least 13 deaths and injuring 50, police have confirmed.
The incident took place on Las Ramblas of Barcelona, the famous main pedestrian walkway that crosses the city. Graphic images and video of the carnage, showing bodies lying crumpled and bleeding in the street, have flooded onto social media.
Spanish newspaper El Pais and Cadena Serradio radio station, citing police sources, reported at least 13 people were killed in the attack.
There were earlier reports that two suspects had fled on foot and were holed up at a Turkish bar, but police have since stated that the driver of the van is in custody and there was never a standoff situation at a bar.

The van used in the attack was rented by Driss Oukabir, El Pais reported (photo above), citing identification made by the Civil Guard. According to some media reports, he is the suspect who has been arrested and has recent history on Facebook railing over the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.
A second van believed to have been linked to the attack was located 40 miles away from Las Ramblas, and has also been searched by police. No explosives were found in the vehicle.

Meanwhile, a Ford Focus rammed into police who were on the scene of the terrorist attack. The suspect, according to reports, jumped out of the vehicle and began firing on police before fleeing.
Also, another local media outlet has reported that a second suspect other than Driss Oukabir has died in a shootout with police. So far there has been no confirmation as to whether the deceased suspect is the same man who fled the Ford Focus.
