All 5 Boston Sports Teams to Run Anti-Racism PSAs During Home Games

*All five major Boston sports franchises are teaming up to try and combat bigoted behavior in the stands.

The Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins and Revolution have recorded a public service announcement that will debut at a Fenway Park event later this month, according to the Boston Globe.

The video, titled “Take the Lead,” features both black and white athletes urging fans to oppose racist behavior at sports venues. All five clubs will play the video at their stadiums, once it’s first shown at Fenway on Sept. 28.

The PSA comes in the wake of two reported racial incidents at Fenway Park over consecutive nights this in May. First, Orioles centerfielder Adam Jones said a fan hurled the n-word at him from the stands. The next evening, a fan was banned for life for saying a racial slur to another patron after a Kenyan woman had performed the national anthem.

“When the incidents in May occurred, one of the first things we recognized was sports teams are high-profile, and we have the opportunity to help lead a high-level discussion around this,” Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy told the Boston Globe. “We wanted to take the lead in taking a stand against racism.”

As previously reported, self-proclaimed social activists unfurled an anti-racism banner over Fenway Park’s Green Monster last week that read, “Racism is as American as baseball.” They were ejected from the ballpark, but not banned.
