Bill Cosby Loses Another Lawyer, Trial Date Pushed Back Again

*For the second time in less than a month, Bill Cosby has shuffled his legal team, causing yet another delay in the California lawsuit that accuses him of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at the Playboy Mansion in 1974.

Angela Agrusa, the lawyer who helped Cosby win a deadlocked jury at his Pennsylvania criminal trial in June, has dropped out of the civil matter and been replaced by new lead lawyer Wayne Gross.

Gross made his first appearance for Cosby in a Santa Monica courtroom Thursday after taking over Wednesday, and promptly asked for a delay of the tentative July 30 civil trial, and Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Craig Karlan pushed the trial date out to Dec. 3, 2018.

Plaintiff Judy Huth, 59, originally filed her lawsuit in December 2014, alleging she and a friend met the comedian as teens, when they wandered onto a Cosby film set in a southern California park.

According to the lawsuit, Cosby invited the girls to his tennis club then ended up taking Huth to the Playboy Mansion, where he allegedly fed her “multiple alcoholic beverages” and forced her to perform a sex act on him.

Cosby, 80, has denied the allegations through his lawyers.

Because Huth was a minor at the time of the alleged assault, the plaintiff was able to file in 2014 even though California’s then statute of limitations on such crimes had expired.

“Mr. Cosby may change lawyers as often as he desires but he can’t change the facts, including the fact that many women allege that he drugged and sexually assaulted them,” Huth’s attorney Gloria Allred said today after the hearing. “Mr. Cosby is just like Humpty Dumpty in Mother Goose’s nursery rhyme,” she scornfully asserted of the actor. “Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a big fall,” she added. “All the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty together again.”
