*The NFL has appealed the preliminary injunction granted to the NFLPA regarding Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott’s six-game suspension.
U.S. District Court Judge Amos Mazzant granted Elliott the injunction and temporary restraining order that blocked the running back’s suspension for violating the personal conduct policy, writing that Elliott did not receive fundamental fairness in the appeal process.
With the injunction, Elliott likely will be able to continue playing as the legal process plays out.
Following the injunction on Friday, Elliott stated he is happy he will “finally get a chance to prove my innocence and just happy that I’ll get to be with the guys for as long as permitted.”
Elliott went on to run for 104 yards on 24 carries in the Cowboys’ 19-3 win against the New York Giants on Sunday night.
The NFL’s appeal was filed in the 5th Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals.
Elliott was accused of, but never charged with, domestic violence in an incident that took place more than a year ago. The alleged victim reportedly gave a false statement to police about one allegation she made against Elliott, but the NFL’s investigation concluded she was telling the truth about three other accounts of physical violence. The Columbus, Ohio, prosecutor who did not bring charges against Elliott also believed the alleged victim but suggested he did not have the evidence to pursue charges.
