*LOS ANGELES – Grammy-winning artist, songwriter and producer, Lalah Hathaway, has officially released the new single, “I Can’t Wait,” from her highly-anticipated upcoming album Honestly. In a new partnership with full label services and distribution company, Caroline, “I Can’t Wait” marks the first single off the fresh-spun R&B album, which is slated for release in Fall 2017.
Coming on the heels of Lalah’s two Grammy wins for Best R&B Album for Lalah Hathaway Live, and Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Angel,” as well as an all-star collaboration with Pharrell Williams on the “Hidden Figures” soundtrack earlier this year, Honestly invites listeners to the join the celebrated R&B artist on a personal journey that is intimate, disruptive and, time-appropriately, honest. The projects presents a palette that recalls a feeling of child’s play, powerfully juxtaposed with a heavy bottom end and cut with the songs’ piercing subject matters. She explains the album’s first single, “I Can’t Wait” in this way:
“I really want to express to people, since there is so much dark shit happening right now, that music is truly this train that you can hop on to transport yourself to having a good time,” Hathaway said. “This song is intended to make people feel good and that is not something to be neglected in this moment.”
The powerful new album is Hathaway’s first project with distribution partner, Caroline, which is focused on providing artist development to a variety of independent musicians. As a committed advocate of quality music and musicianship, Hathaway recognized a common interest with Caroline, ultimately joining forces to develop her own imprint, Hathaway Entertainment. Drawing upon Hathaway’s legendary career and network of friends and collaborators, the burgeoning new label will act as a haven for independent artists, fostering new talent and spreading more real music to a wider audience of listeners.
