*Fat Joe went on CNN Wednesday morning (Oct. 4) to plead for more assistance to Puerto Rico as it tries to recover from Hurricane Maria, the brutal category five storm that destroyed the island last month.

The rapper of Puerto Rican descent discussed how he’s been doing his part alongside JAY-Z and Tidal to help revitalize the country.

“We set out a goal with JAY-Z and Tidal to fill up one plane with 200,000 pounds, and actually we filled up five planes, and we gotta fill up another five more,” he said. “We’re at 2 million pounds that the city of New York has collected.”

The Bronx native also gave his opinion on the lackluster response by U.S. officials thus far.

“We feel stranded,” he said. “As U.S. citizens, Puerto Rico has paid their part. I have two little cousins that’s in the army right now, willing to give their life for this country. And the fact that it took so long to get any help out there, that’s what I mean. So we had to mobilize and power ourselves to collect canned foods and waters and women’s hygiene and toothpastes to give back to our own community, and that we did.”

On Oct. 17, Joe will hit the stage with JAY-Z, DJ Khaled, Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B and more for the TIDAL X concert, which will donate its proceeds towards natural disaster relief and recovery organizations.
