Usher Speaks Out About Las Vegas Massacre and Plans for Tribute on ‘Extra’

*”Extra‘s” Mario Lopez sat down with eight-time Grammy winner Usher at Universal Studios Hollywood, where they talked about the heartbreaking Las Vegas massacre , and his current projects, including his passion project, the Megastar app.

Usher spoke out about the horrific mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival, saying it will not deter him from doing what he loves.

“Music has always been a place we retreat to for love, for passion for honesty, we will not be in fear of things that happen.”

Breaking this news, he added, “I am going to have a concert in Las Vegas very soon,” and there will be a tribute to the victims of the shooting, “That is how you respond to adversity, that is how you respond to negativity, with love… My heart goes out to them… The war is on hatred, we are love and we have to be that collectively.”

Usher also opened up about “The Voice,” and whether he would ever return.

The coach appeared on Seasons 4 and 6, and helped Josh Kaufman take home the top prize.

“I don’t think they will make an extra seat for me, but if they decided to add that fifth seat I will be there,” he said.

He is not only focusing on singing, but acting as well, co-starring alongside Forest Whitaker in the new movie “Burden.”

Explaining the premise, Usher said, “The reality of what it is to live in the south, segregation, the effort that come out of the Baptist church and if anyone finds love they can change. A very significant message for where we are in the time, where we are in the country… The reality of the faces we look at here, not just black and white, but people.”

The 38-year-old, who famously mentored Justin Bieber, and has said Sean “Diddy” Combs was his mentor, also touched on the importance of mentoring. He said, “If you can teach the people who are trying to be great at something, take a negative and try to turn it to a positive… it can turn into what any person’s dream can be.”

He will be mentoring more potential stars with the world’s largest crowdsourced talent competition, “Megastar.” Usher shared, “You upload the Megastar app and you download any video you have… Whether you do extreme sports, whether you’re a magician, musician, juggler, singer, dancer, whatever your trade is… It gives you the opportunity of [winning] a million dollars.”

Usher mentoring the entrants and the winner chosen by their peers who can also comment on their performances.  Saying it is the first time there is a world app that allows artists to connect and build their brand this way.
