*Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have reserved a plum summer release date for its upcoming reboot of blaxploitation-era classic “Shaft.”

The Tim Story-directed continuation, starring Jessie T. Usher opposite Samuel L. Jackson, is set to debut in theaters June 14, 2019, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sources say the story will center on Usher’s character, who is the son of John Shaft.

The first “Shaft” in 1971 – starring Richard Roundtree as John Shaft, a private detective hired to rescue a Harlem mobster’s kidnapped daughter – was a box-office hit for MGM, earning $13 million. Isaac Hayes’ theme won the Oscar for best original song, and the film was added to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2000.

There were two sequels, “Shaft’s Big Score” (1972) and “Shaft in Africa” (1973), along with the 2000 follow-up, also called Shaft, which starred Jackson as the nephew of the original John Shaft.

Warner Bros. on Wednesday also announced that it is moving up the release of New Line’s ensemble comedy “Tag” from June 29, 2018, to June 15. Isla Fisher, Ed Helms, Jeremy Renner, Jake Johnson, Hannibal Buress, Jon Hamm, Annabelle Wallis and Rashida Jones star in the pic.

Based on a true story that was featured in The Wall Street Journal, the story follows a group of friends who have been playing a no-holds-barred version of the children’s game Tag for the last 30 years. Jeff Tomsic directs; Mark Steilen and Rob McKittrick penned the script.
