“Justice League” and “Mudbound” are winners at the box office this weekend. “Batman v Superman” was one of DC Comics’ worse after killing off Superman. That whole concept of superheroes fighting each other was ridiculous! No doubt it’s purpose was to reunite the superheroes.
Justice League
What makes “Justice League” particularly special is Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and his brilliant dad Silas Stone (Joe Morton). [Morton didn’t learn his lesson in “Terminator 2”]. Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg, and The Flash (Ezra Miller), with the help of a revived Superman (Henry Cavill), work together to fight against an awakened threat.
Directed by Zack Snyder, the film also stars Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Jeremy Irons (Alfred), and Diane Lane (Martha Kent).
‘Mudbound’
“Mudbound,” one of this year’s best films, is a must see. Set in the rural South during WWII, the gut-wrenching movie is the story of two families struggling—the black one more so—the harsh demands of farming in the Jim Crow Mississippi Delta.
Although sharecroppers, the Jackson family not only have to deal with farming issues, but the deep rooted racism, the Klan, and a lynching. Returned Tuskegee Airman Ronsel Jackson (Jason Mitchell) is not exempt to the brutal treatment by town racists.
Directed by Dee Rees, “Mudbound” also stars Mary J. Blige, Rob Morgan, Garrett Hedlund, Carey Mulligan, and Jason Clarke,
‘Roman J. Israel, Esq.’
Denzel Washington stars as the quirky idealistic defense attorney whose life is upended when a turbulent series of events challenge the activism that has defined his career. This character driven story, directed by Dan Gilroy, is commended for spotlighting a gifted attorney who rose in the ranks while fighting for a cause.
Audiences used to fast paced action thrillers will be hard pressed to be consumed for 139 minutes by this cerebral legal drama. Colin Farrell, Carmen Ejogo, Shelley Hennig, and Tony Plana.
