Idina Menzel Tweets #MeToo After Trump Cabinet Member Tells Victims to ‘Let It Go’

Idina Menzel (L) and US. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao

*Idina Menzel added to the #MeToo conversation today in response to a statement made by Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, suggesting that women who come forward to call out sexual harassment in the workplace need to “let it go.”

Chao, also the wife of Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) made the comment when adding her own #MeToo story, saying, “I will fight for other women and I will stand up for other women, but, of your own, you gotta let it go, because otherwise, it’s too corrosive, it’s too negative, and it does you a double injury because it holds you back.”

“Things change, times change, and it’s not worth my while to go back and revisit those negative moments,” Chao continued. She would not name her harasser, but said he was still active.

Menzel dragged Chao on Twitter for not taking into account that other women who experience sexual harassment might have a different healing process than her own.

“With all due respect @SecElaineChao,” Menzel tweeted, “Every woman has the right to her own healing process but the LET IT GO I know is about unleashing that inimitable FORCE within each of us/that power we share as women to stand up 4 ourselves & make a change. #nomorehiding #nomoreshame #metoo,” referencing the hit Frozen song and shutting down the secretary in a single eloquent tweet.
