*Tessa Thompson, Whoopi Goldberg and La La Anthony will join Melissa Leo, Anna Paquin and Edgar Ramirez in the road trip comedy “Furlough,” which has just been acquired by IFC Films, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Directed by Laurie Collyer, the film stars Thompson as a woman who cares for her aging mother while working at a jail. She gets assigned to accompany a rowdy prisoner (Leo) on an emergency furlough to visit her dying mother, but the duo’s trip goes haywire.
Goldberg plays Thompson’s onscreen mother.
Barry Strugatz penned the script. Leo and DeerJen’s Jen Gatien produced the film, financed by Meridian Entertainment and EFC Films.
Thompson was most recently seen in the hit Marvel film “Thor: Ragnarok.” Next on her plate is Alex Garland’s drama “Annihilation” and Nia DaCosta’s modern Western “Little Woods,” as well as Boots Riley’s sci-fi comedy “Sorry to Bother You,” premiering at the Sundance Film Festival.
