Is Gabby Too Big for Hollywood?
*At this point the whole world knows that Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe can act her big butt off. But (yes the pun is intended), that’s the problem.
Gabby, nominated for a best actress Oscar for “Precious,” is loaded with talent and has personality for days, but is she too BIG for Hollywood?!
According to the PopEater’s Rob Shuter, an industry source told him she needs drop a lot of poundage if she wants to keep working.
“I’m not saying it’s correct, but it’s a simple fact that she will have to lose a lot of weight if she wants to keep getting parts,” one casting director told Shuter. “The same thing happened to Nikki Blonsky from ‘Hairspray.’ Everyone said how great she was, and she hasn’t worked since.”
The article goes on to quote friends of Gabby saying that she hasn’t felt any pressure, but they also note that she’s not exactly being inundated with parts, either.

In other Gabby news, Justin Timberlake is soooo yesterday as far as “Miss Precious” is concerned. Seems she’s got a new fantasy boyfriend: actor Gerard Butler.
“He’s kinda sexy. I’d hit that…I’m not ashamed,” she told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush at Sunday’s Oscars. Butler’s response?:
“I’m here, I’m available.” he joked. “Let’s go!”

Yes. Her massive size will typecast her for some time. She will not be a love interest or superhero, or the lawyer or the soccer mom, or the girl next door, or practically anything “normal.” At her size she will always be cast as the “freak show.” It is almost impossible to see past her weight. It will get in the way of anyone seeing her past “the big girl.” Unlike bigger actresses like Monique and Queen Latifah, this Gabourey person does not wear her weight well–it wears her…it consumes her. For health reasons and career reasons, it’d be a good idea if she’d hire the best personal trainer around.

Unfortunately that may be true. But the standard is the same for white women as evidenced by some former “thick” white actresses that lost weight to get work. It being she’s black and big, well it’s a double damn according to Hollywood!!!!

Like it or NOT, that’s Hollywood. You have actresses suffering from eating disorders or going on crazy fad diets trying to fit the Hollywood standard of beauty.
Black actresses already have it hard trying to find decent parts. She lucked up on ‘Precious’ because they were looking for someone EXACTLY like her. However, that role was once in a lifetime and will NEVER come again.
If she wants to continue working in Hollywood, she’ll have to conform — she has no choice.

Unfortunately, the above posts have some very valid points, she will be typecast. I sincerely hope not and I want to see her in many different roles. Gabby is a refreshing change as far as her personality goes. Just like Sandra Bullock Gabby appears to be so down to earth and very likable. On a side note. I see Justin Timberlake did not escort her to the awards, I knew he would not do it, would of been a nice gesture though.

While we understand that she has a weight problem, people should not be hating on her. I imagine she is doing things that should be done to get rid of the weight. We are not in her life and we as the public has no business judging her. At least she came out in the public than some who sitting on their behinds eating bon bons and sitting day in or day out. Please, judge her on her talent, not because of her weight. It will come off eventually.
