*Apple has always been known innovative in it’s approach. In the eighties, Apple changed the game by creating a Windows Competitor in computing. In the 2000’s they shook up the music industry with the iPod, a revolutionary MP3 player which helped Apple create it’s ecosystem founded on something we knew and loved; music. In 2007, Apple changed the game again by creating the iPhone, and the story continues to unfold.

Over the last few years however, there hasn’t been much innovation. What I’ve noticed about apple is that they tend to now improve on products that have already been introduced to the market.

Today  we’ll just spring forward…

Apple TV is going to be cheaper 69.00 instead of 99.00. HBO is going to be the first content provider to cut the cord, in April, consumers can pay 14.95 for a monthly subscription, WITHOUT a cable company.

Next up iPhone.. Apple has sold 700,000 phones and has a customer satisfaction rate of 99% for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6+ . With the recent focus on health, Apple has worked with some of the best medical organizations in the world to create Research Kit, a tool that will allow for consumers to not only monitor their health, but to help diagnose and treat these diseases by providing research through the iPhone! This will transform the way the medical industry collects data. Putting solutions in the hands of the consumer is the future of medical research and Apple is doing just that. And its open source, so if you have an Android App, my bet is that this is coming to you soon.

New Macs! “Once you go Mac You Don’t Go Back” I purchased a Mac in 2008, It’s been the best experience I’ve had with computers. This year Apple has reinvented the notebook. Apple’s new Macbook is incredibly thin. 24% thinner than the current Macbook Air! 12 inch display, brand new keyboard, Retina Display, *All Day Battery LIfe. Comes in Silver, Space Gray, and Gold! Now you can color coordinate your Macbook, iPad and iPhone. #macbooklust . Ships on April 10th!

Next Up…. The APPLE WATCH.. The most advanced time piece ever created… hmmm.

This thing looks amazing. Apple seems to make whats good, better. They weren’t the first to create it, but they are the first to refine it. It’s basically a companion to your iPhone, buts cool to know that there is a way to view your notifications and talk to Siri from your wrist.

The one way Apple has more of an advantage in Wearables than Google is that Apple’s Brand seems to speak to the masses (in America, at least)  and many companies who also speak to the masses seem to know Apple’s popularity they’ve also developed apps that just work for their platform and also look awesome while doing so. Instagram, for example, can be seen on an Apple Watch, but not yet available on Google’s wearable platform, Android Wear, which has been out for about 9 months now.

There are three different tiers, Apple Watch Sport edition,  Apple Watch Steel Edition and Apple Watch Edition the prices range from $349.00 to, check this, $17,000.00.  Which one are you purchasing???

The Verge's view of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge

Samsung’s Galaxy S6 vs Apple’s iPhone 6: Time to ‘Think Different’

galaxy s6

*On Sunday Samsung debuted two new flagship phones for 2015; the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, two highly anticipated devices that will hopefully inspire other companies (Apple) to keep innovation as a top priority in their platform.

It’s a good time to note that while Apple and Samsung are rivals, they actually worked together for a long time. Samsung used to supply Apple with many parts for the original iPhone and subsequent models. Apple and Samsung went to court about this because Apple felt that Samsung had copied Apple when they released their Galaxy S series back in 2010

Then Samsung released the Note in 2011, while Apple at the time shunned the idea of a bigger-screened phone, they eventually did the same thing with the release of the iPhone 6+ last September. There’s just one problem with this… the Apple iPhone has the potential to be a great device but it seems to lack innovation that the company first was known for. Granted there are a few things Apple has done correctly: Design, iMessage, Camera. These things all are great and always have been exceptional for Apple. However, the iPhone’s functionality has never really changed. Despite a few incremental updates that Apple allows in its annual iOS update. (A lot of them came from Google’s Android Platform), the fact is that although the phone is beautiful, it’s really basic, especially for 2015.

Samsung, on the other hand was highly scrutinized last year for the release of the Galaxy s5, which honestly,  aside from a few health monitors, was an incremental update of the previous model (S4). While the phone system had less Samsung Bloatware, it was still constructed of cheap plastic, which couldn’t justify the price tag. And the laggy Touch-Wiz interface was less than desired by many who used it.

So Samsung went back to the drawing board, creating the all new Galaxy S6, which Samsung thinks will take a big bite outta of that silver apple market share. There are some distinct changes to note. A. It’s made of Gorilla Glass 4 B. There is no more SD slot for additional memory. C. There is no more removable battery D. The Camera is way better in low light and boast 16MP with a 1.9 Aperture (meaning it can capture more light) Samsung was even bold enough to compare videos shot from an iPhone 6+ and the new Galaxy S6 during its keynote yesterday and the results were quite amazing.

Samsung also debuted the Galaxy S6 Edge, the first phone of its kind with dual curved glass on each side, (think Note 4 Edge with two edges instead of one).  The tech conglomerate plans to release these two phones on April 10th 2015.  More than likely, if you have a national carrier  like AT&T , Verizon, Sprint or T-Mobile, this phone will be available on your network.  Take about a minute and view the promo video for the phone posted on Samsung’s  YouTube channel:

Regardless, Apple’s iPhone has America’s market share.  And while it’s no slouch, the iPhone has a lot of catching up to do from an innovation standpoint. Here is a quick comparison of the iPhone and Samsung’s newest flagship.

Which one are you going to buy? I had the iPhone 6+ for about two weeks, and while the size didn’t bother me, I kept going back to my Android because I’m used to it. The operating system on iPhone, in my humble opinion, has a lot of capabilities. It’s just whether Apple decides to become “innovative” again.  One can only hope…

Ludacris Receives BMI President’s Award

*Many of us hear the great songs on the radio, on television, and through streaming media services like Pandora and Spotify daily. However, many of us don’t know the men and women behind the stars or the chart topping hits.

On Friday, BMI, the global leader in music rights managements, hosted its annual BMI R&B/Hip Hop awards honoring the artists and writers who product the hits that we jam to every day.

Hosted by BMI President and CEO Mike O’Neill, Vice President, Writer/Publisher Relations, Atlanta, Catherine Brewton along with Revolt TV President of Marketing Kenny Burns, the annual event  paid homage to several icons in the music industry including Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges who was presented with the BMI President’s Award for his outstanding achievement in songwriting and his profound global influence on culture and the entertainment industry.

Ludacris, who has been in the music industry for more than 15 years, got the crowd jumping with a medley of all of his greatest hits including “Fantasy,” “How Low Can You Go,” “Southern Hospitality,” “Area Codes,” and “Yeah,” joined by special guest Mystikal.

The evening also featured a slew of performances: rapper TeeFlii and DJ Goofy delivered “24 Hours”; Tamar Braxton offered “Love and War”; and a special set by DJ Mustard and YG.

Additional top honors were presented at the awards ceremony: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Can’t Hold Us” earned the Song of the Year prize; Lil Wayne was crowned the Songwriter of the Year for penning hits “Ball,” “Bandz A Make Her Dance,” “Beware,” “Love Me,” “No Worries,” and “Pop That.” DJ Mustard won the coveted Producer of the Year award and Warner-Tamerlane Publishing Corp. accepted the prestigious Publisher of the Year crystal for having 14 of the most-performed songs from the previous year.

moto watch

Moto360 utilizing Google Now

This week Motorola announced the debut of its newest addition to its product line. The Moto360, a stylish, innovative smartwatch that combines form and function.

The Smart Watch which was announced shortly after Google announced Android Wear look to be very promising. Most SmartWatches that have been debuted in the last year or so are square and clunky or offer minimum,  often battery draining or lack luster designs that come off as cheap .

Moto360 plans to change all that. Not only is the design fashionable, its functions and color screen set it on par with some of the most fashionable watches out out there.

It’s not coming out till this summer but the basic form and function in the concept video featured below show the capabilities and potential of this device.

If you have an Android or iPhone device and utilize Google Now.. this watch will help you view the information you would usually see on your phone, on the watch. There are voice commands that allow you to do everything from reading and sending a text to seeing whose called you when your phone was sitting in your pocket. I can sum it up in one word  #awesome.

Of course there are things we don’t know yet about the watch.  Battery life is one of those things.  As we have seen in our mobile devices, the phone is only as good as its battery. However, the one thing that makes me not worry about this issue so much is the Motorola has made excellent strides in battery life with its proprietary technology.  So I can only hope and pray that this same tech will be placed into the watches.

If you have a little more time on your hands.. Feel free to watch the Google hangouts. Feel free to check out the YouTube Video below

I am looking forward to the possibilities… aren’t you.

The Top 3 Phones of 2013

nexus 5*Hello Technology Lovers and Fellow Gadgeteers. Happy New Year!

In this edition of #Gigabits,  we are going to touch on some of the top mobile devices of 2013. Yeah.. i know.. its 2014. But if you are in the market for a new smartphone and Santa didn’t stick one in your stocking. You might want to consider these choices

iphone 5siPhone 5s- Rated the overall best smartphone in 2013 by BGR.com, this phone definitely was worth the wait.  Apple made the most of its flagship by adding a better camera, a fingerprint scanner, and a new Gold edition. Under the hood, Apple increased the speed and also added a 64 bit processor. Most of us don’t know what that means, but it basically means the iPhone 5s can graphics faster which helps in playing games without any noticeable lag.  Although it isn’t the cheapest phone you can buy. Best Buy is offering it for 75.00 off the original 199.99 price tag, so you can snag one for 124.99 (with a 2 year contract of course) which is actually relatively good. Although for all the new photos you might be taking I would recommend the 32GB model which is 100.00 buck more. Over the holidays, Apple made a phenomenal commercial that seemed to touch everyone that watched it. If you haven’t seen it yet, here it is…

http://youtu.be/ImlmVqH_5HM

moto xMoto X- if you not an apple user, the next phone I would recommend would be the Moto X.  Google bought Motorola a few years back and this phone is the lovechild of that merger. There are two special features i’d like to mention in discussing this phone. A. Touchless Control. – yes .. you can now just talk to your phone and it will respond . All you have to say is “ Ok Google” and it will follow your every command. You don’t even to touch it. Just tell it what to do .. So all you Star Trek fans can rejoice. Another great thing about this phone is that it’s customizable! You can create your own version of the phone and it will ship to you in about 4 days! All you have to do is visit www.motomaker.com and you can design and create your own phone. Also its manufactured right here at the Motorola plant in the good old USA. Just in time for the new year, the price of the Moto X without a contract is 399.00 for the 16GB version. If you want a contract.. I think you can get this one for about 99.00 through all four major carriers, Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. Check out the video below to see how Google Now  and Touchless Controls work.

nexus5

Nexus 5-  Every year Google creates a phone to showcase what Android can do, this year was no exception. The Nexus 5 debuted on October 31st and packed a ton of features (albeit not touchless control) in a sleek device. The best thing about the nexus brand is that it usually receives the latest build of Android dubbed “KitKat” before any of the other Android phones do. Another great thing about this phone is the price. The 16GB model is only 349.00  and the 32GB is 399.00, (plus tax ,of course). This is my personal phone. I constantly switch between the iPhone and the Nexus every year and have also had my pro’s and cons about both, but I chose to wait until next year to see what the iPhone 6 has in store . It can be purchased on Sprint, Verizon or T-Mobile or unlocked just by visiting http://www.google.com/nexus/5/ . Check out the promotional video below.
