Comment: I'm with Cathy Hughes on this one. Steve Harvery showed a lack of class with those comments he made. In business you're gonna have disagreements, but you just have to move on, and handle yourself like a professional. Keep your private disagreements private, instead of trying to air your dirty laundry out int the street. Not cool.

Comment: Cathy Hughes is one of the few “minority owners” of a broadcast interest left in the industry. We all should support her efforts and pray that she will be able to develop a network that represents our culture and varied interest. BET-was and is a joke played on us about us to entertain YT. Keep your head up Cathy, homeboy-Harvey sold out as many other do. But the fact is he owns no-thing of consequence to our people.
You Cathy need not communicate on this low level. Not one more word.

Comment: I never really cared for Steve Harvey. Don't think he is funny at all. Someone gave you a chance and if he was smart you know all deals especailly in entertainment end if you are not up to the plate at all times. Did he cuss out the white folks on UPN when they cancelled his sorry TV show? Doubt it.

Comment: It could be that Steve was merely making jokes, but Cathy took them personally. While it may have been deemed disrespectful by some, others may have felt Steve wasn't serious. Much like when someone tells some embarrassing info about another person - everyone else has a laugh at your expense.

Comment: What's Steve's side of the story?
Everyone knows that Steve is a butthead and feels he is long over due and gets really resentful when others do well. Those of us in the Washington, DC area knows Cathy Hughes, especially doing her days @ Howard University, how she sometimes do not tell the whole truth.
Give Steve some space to explain why he said what he said. Actually, his statement was in tune to a lot of rude and malious comments made towards African American Women that night a the BET Comedy Awards. Amazingly, an African American woman won the ultimate award. What were the "Boys" thinkin', they gave to a well deserved person for a change.

When there is nothing else on i can catch an episode of Boston Public, New York Undercover, Martin, Good Times, Amen and countless others. Not to mention, the throwback movies from the 70's. Yeah, they run Cornbread, Earl & Me a little too often but it sure beats watchin T&A being shook all over BET.

Comment: Niyofu: As a fellow Washingtonian, Radio One only has one thing going for it and that's Tom Joyner. Cathy Hughes booted Donnie Simpson off of a station here and that station hasn't been any good since in my opinion. Now how can you diss Donnie!! The DJ's never stay longer that six months one most Radio One stations and usually with very abrupt and controversial departures. I think Russ Parr has been on a while and I can't stand him or his crew. They let his sidekick go, Olivia somebody, and it was a big deal here, because she was “Here today, gone tomorrow”, without a goodbye or anything. The Baltimore station is good and I listen to them, but I think you're right when you say Ms. Hughes is not always forthcoming when it comes to why the DJ's leave her stations. That’s probably the case in other areas as well. Steve didn’t have to diss the sista though. She must of been really hurt by his comments, because she seems like a classy lady and her comments about him seemed out of character, based on interviews I've seen and heard from her. She not managing every station herself, and I don’t think the whole company should be to blame. There are always three sides to every story, his side, her side and the TRUTH! Well, never get the third!!

Comment: It's no surprise that since Steve Harvey began to receive props for his comedy his head got bigger. He has to his credit embraced some of the schools in Compton, CA to provide materials and books so that the kids there could compete in education and the job market. That in no way entitles him to raise a back hand at the very people instrumental in assisting his rise to stardom. As for Cathy Hughes, I live here in the metropolitan area and would be very careful of jumping on her bandwagon. I applaud her for TV1 and the other stations she's acquired and for the strides she's made in the professional marketplace but I have yet to meet anyone in her position with totally clean hands.

Comment: Good morning folks. SH has issues. First he has a beef with Bernie Mac and now TV One both are still doing there thing. I know he felt like shyt when the Mac show won all those awards I'm sure Bernie was at home tell Steve to kiss his entire azz. What Steve hasn't learned is that in this business what goes around comes around and SH will have to see Cathy again. Now what if she is able to buy NY WBLS his azz will have to deal with her again. SH is old enough to know that what goes up must come down. Steve's whole azz is dumb

Comment: Don't believe the hype! Radio One is known for paying slave wages in the radio industry, firing people on whims, and management through intimidation.
Granted Ms. Hughes was in the right place at the right time, and prepared - but she ain't all that... Matter of fact, I'd give most of the credit for the success of Radio One to her son. I know what I'm talking about, as I used to see Ms. Hughes frequently at the Young Black Programmers Coalition meetings in the Carolinas back in the late 80's when she didn't have a pot to %*$! in.
That being said, I do wish them success - in only a limited amount of time, they have put together a pretty good amount of programming on TV One, much of which is better than BET.

Comment: I worked in radio until recently and let me tell you. I know Kathy well and that elevator does not always go to the top. She is not the nicest person in the world and that trait has rubbed off on her son. Everyone used to think he was gay until he told them the reason he is never seen with a woman is because he will never date a black woman. He only dates white women. I will never forget how she and Jeff Majors tortured this woman Jeff used to date and because they had access to the airwaves they painted this woman as a stalker and a crazy. But Jeff never once told how he use to beat his first wife ( From
Sweet Honey and the Rock) half to death the whole time they were married. Trust me when I say I am no fan of Steve Harvey but consider the source on this one.

Shirley Strawberry would speak on current issues in the news or give a commentary and he'd say some retarded shyt like "wuz dat?" He needs to go to the same teacher that Magic Johnson went to to learn how to speak better. Plus he yells on the mike the whole show. He'd say shyt on the radio that made the listener uncomfortable and would make negative comments on the air ALL THE TIME about the managerment, program director, etc. Certain stuff you don't air on the radio for the public and he'd constantly do it. I always said he's gonna get fired bec of that. It's like working at your job and management is filled w/azzholes, you mumble it unless you just want to get fired. She was having a baby and has not been heard from since. You know her better then me. But in radio circle she was known to be combative and not easy to work with. I do know that she was largely responsible for the success of Russ's show with all the characters she created. She bought a lot to the table. I would pay some one to help super ken turn up missin. He eats me. Can't stand him with his non talking self. alfredas sucks too. and that stupid ghetto ke-lo-lo or whatever her name is . That is why I hate commercial radio in additon to the fact you have to listen to 20minutes of advertising to hear one song that is played about 15 times a day. No vision or variety. Just sad.

Comment: BigheadBull I was reluctant to bring that up but I still can't bring myself to give Jeff props for anything he does because he let Cathy terrorize a woman he was still sleeping with when he got involved with Cathy. Instead of making a clean break and then beginning a new relationship this man and Cathy Hughes all but drove that woman crazy. You know that woman paid a hefty fine and ended up doing jail time for the accusations those two made against her. Like I said, in this business there are no clean hands. Priceless is right when she said that Steve was already established when he hooked up with Cathy Hughes so that statement alone should make you suspect of this drama.

Comment: Isn’t Clear channel a major supporter of the illegitimate Bush administration? Leaving a minority organization for what could be the devil may not be a wise choice in the long run. I hear what you all say about Cathy Hughes tactics, but I don’t think she got anything on Clear channel. I hear that Clear channel have a way of really hurting folks and organizations that they don’t approve of by spreading rumors through their vast network. In most cases, the average person cannot distinguish between rumor and fact because of the seemingly disparate sources of these rumors. All of which are actually owned by clear channel. I wish Steve all the best, but I think he will live to regret some of the choices made with respect to these two organizations.

He would even comment on management because they had to go on a commercial break, and if I’m correct, those commercial breaks are how they pay his salary. Then Shirley would just be fake-laughing at his unfunny jokes all day. She would be rothfl and the jokes weren’t even funny enough to put a smirk on my face. Then here comes his pervert nephew Tommy and together they had to ask every woman that called in, their size, weight, etc. I was too through after that. Why do you have to answer questions about ur body type to win tickets to a concert.

We all know that a woman of her position has others doing her dirty work. I was at the show and heard what he said and it was in no way directed toward Ms.Cathy in any way whatsoever. SH is obviously movin onward and upward and Ms Cathy can't stand it. (IF she even made these comments in this context, she might read this article and say, "what the hell??!! I didn't say that!!!)
John Salley is lame azz hell. SH may be so called country and ignorant but somebody likes the man enough to keep him in the business and constantly getting gigs.

Comment: This is a little off topic, but personally, I don't think its good for our community of any one company to own so many stations, regarless of color. I feel the same way about all of this synicated radio shows. Some of them are definitely entertaining, but if we're not careful we are going to be left with local stations that have no connections to the communities they represent. Give me a locally owned station with local DJs any day

Comment: ok, she is playing the old balck lady card..disrespect his elders. She was his boss, he was refering to her as his boss, not the church lady. I AGREE RADIO ONE the BLACK URBAN MONOPOLY has help RUIN black radio. I am tired of hearing the same 10 songs every hour on the hour in every city I traveled too. What happened to the days when local, national new and up-coming artist could get air play? What happen to REGIONAL hits? I applaud her business skills in aquiring these stations. Bravo. Now, let us try not running them like an %*$embly line.

Comment: Here skills, what skills? She either had money or had good credit and bought those stations. She did play any records or do a news program so big deal. Anybody with money could do what she did. Not one person listen to her stations because she owns them.

Comment: unfortunately, since I live in Oregon,we don't have access to TV ONE or Radio One,so I can't speak to Steve's on air antics. I think that he is funny,at times, but he can also be corny. That is disrespectful if he directed that comment to Cathy Hughes, but like others have said there are two (or rather three) sides to every story,so there is probably much more to this story. I do think that it's unfortunate that black folks use BET, which is broadcast to other communities besides our own,to showcase their disdain of other black folks. some things can be handled privately. And if Ms. Hughes used that venue to villify another sister over a man,Jeff Majors, then shame on her. that sounds like an abuse of power

Comment: I didn't know Cathy Hughes and Jeff Majors was suppose to be a couple. I've met him and seen him perform live in Raleigh NC and I always thought he was gay, I swear! I thought they just hung out, like having a gay friend - because he is as gay as a May Pole. On the subject of Steve, I like Steve. I like Steve, the comedian. I don't know Steve, the man off stage, so I can't comment. I still can't get over Jeff Majors even having a wife in the first place. He probably beat her because she wasn't a man and he was dealing with his homosexual demons! Seriously!

Comment: i think every word that ms . hughes said is true , when steve harvey came to Florida we commented on how rude an arrogant he was , he was very nasty to the college students here and rude to the audience , so i think he needs to be put on blast for acting so nasty toward people !

Comment: I, for one, couldn't stand Steve Harvey when he was on the air in Los Angeles! What irked me the most was when he called Bloods and Crips, "soldiers" at the end of his shows in the mornings. If I remember correctly, the men and women who serve in the U.S. armed forces are the only soldiers! Just a thought...

Comment: Thanks to all the Washingtonians for putting out some of word on CHughes. She definitely has a NASTY side to her and maybe she was due some of those comments Steve made about her. BigHead - I know exactly what you are talking about in reference to CHughes, JMajors, and the 3rd woman. I know the 3rd woman and her elevator doesn't reach the top floor either. That whole situation was a real mess. Oh yeah, CHughes is a TRIP!!!!!!

Comment: Steve Harvey is opionated and seemingly has a hugh ego and doesn't seem large on automatic respect just because you are paying him. Heck he insults the audience and they pay beaucoup bucks to see him. That's his shtick period, either you find it funny or you don't. The comment he made regarding Ms. Hughes is par for the course no doubt it was part of his comedy, heck he says funky stuff to everybody. He won't be the first or the last to show disrespect to a former employer or heck current employer (look how they rag on BET on Comicview, when BET has hired them for the Comicview show) What she's special now, untouchable? I could even see her being a little put oute if he still worked for her but since he doesn't OH WELL. Plus he was working the Chitlin circuit? What, she put him on or something? Gee I thought that they wanted him because he was a popular comedian, not to reach out and help poor ole' struggling Steve. Why is this a dang issue anyway Ms. Hughes? tell you what don't hire him again even if he asks and you'll show him not to disrespect his ELDERS!!!

Comment: Whoa! Now that's interesting. Did you know Dominique DiPrima (sp) (one of Steve's "Angels") has landed on KJLH 102.3 FM Los Angeles in the 4:30am pst time slot? She is kind of taking over the Front Page show from Carl Nelson. The station has gotten alot of angry mail-something about her dissing Carl (who everyone says is a venerable icon) and trying to push him out. We'll see.

Comment: I live in Los Angeles, CA. and was a devoted listener to the Steve Harvey Morning Show when he was on in Los Angeles. What i saw was a man being held back from saying what he thought.I personally thought he should have had a talk radio show for he is so knowledgeable. What Mrs Hughes fell to realize is the Steve Harvey was the one who got her Station to the number one slot in the mornings. He was very different from the boring morning shows here in Los Angeles . He made the Beat a better radio station for he was all about the community. I guess Mrs Hughes has forgotten how it feels to give up a job you enjoy. Normal people would harbor ill feelings about how they were let go . So i guess Mrs Hughes is scared Steve will be number one again. For The Block Party With John Sally Sucks all the down the toilet to the pacific ocean.

Comment: My first impression of Steve Harvey was that his brand of humor belonged on the school playgrounds. Also, I have never seen his TV show because I just don't watch UPN. As far as morning radio, I stopped listening to that when I turned 18. It has and always will be juvenile. BET and TV One should both come to the realization that not all Black people want to see reruns of Sanford and Son. So both Ms Hughes and Mr. Harvey get no kudos or sympathy from this side of the peanut gallery.
