Comment: Freudian slip or twisted tongue? Even though, I detest Condi and her aunt jemima, bush-loving persona, this guy may have just slipped his tongue for an "on" rather than a "up". He was praising her attributes not debasing her race so this doesn't add up. A minister in my town wsa in the pulpit a few years ago, preaching and the "F" word slipped out. He apologized and continued to preach. The congregation didn't fire him. To err is human, to forgive divine.

Comment: Fanteeking I commented yesterday that I thought we were getting up in arms over a slip of the tongue but he said it twice - the tape I heard it only played once. Slip of the tognue - maybe but when he backed up he came the same way. Not sure but in the event he was clowning her he's learned a valuable lesson. If not - he still learned a valuable lesson!

Comment: I heard the actual radio clip on the news this morning. To me, it sounded like he really did slip when he said coon and he immediatley apologized. BUT it makes you wonder what he was really thinking and why that word in particular came out of his mouth while discussing a black person. Again, I don't think it was malicious.

Comment: First Oprah, and now Condi has a "Crash" moment... I don't believe in "inadvertent slips of the tongue" with respect to racial slurs. This man was talking about a black woman and the word "coon" came out. This was no slip. Am I unreasonable? No. Because I interviewed a sharp-as-a-tack, highly intelligent job candidate yeserday, and the word "sh!t" slipped out. She was mortified. I didn't let her know, but I thought it was hilarious...because it really was a slip. "Coon" was not a s "slip."

Comment: yesterday...

Name: coneyi
Comment: Yeah! It slipped because it's a part of your everyday language. Man up!

Name: musbdherbs
Comment: Uhm...if he had said she was a n*gga, would he still be fired AND would people be so appalled? I've been hearing people how horrible this was but was it really? Hell Paul Mooney has a coon awards and I don't think nebody protested too much. Actually, it seemed to b funny to most people.

Name: JamerDelta
Comment: I think it was a slip myself--its happened to me before where the "f" word came out instead of what I meant to say. Sometimes people do make mistakes and in the context of him praising her--I just think it was a slip.>>"prettygirl" how is it ok for one person to slip but not another. We all make mistakes.

Name: coesmo
Comment: I commented on this yesterday. It came out of his mouth too easily for it to be a mistake...

Name: Apple
Comment: Somehow I do believe that it was a simple mistake. He was praising her achievements so it wasn't like what he was saying was to be mean. Although, I've never mixed those two words up I can see how it could come out that way. I have big lips so every once in a while I mix words too.

Comment: LOl @ Apple.....me too and I have slips all the time because I talk fast as well. I listened to the clip and it seemed liks it was a slip of the tongue. I don't know what he may have been thinking about but it seemed like a slip of the tongue in which he immediately apologized.

Comment: Okay people mistakes DO happen. If anyone on this board has never made a mistake or misspoke then you are truly a miracle. I think that it is sad these days that 1) there are people with the sole job of finding anything someone WHITE says that may be wrong. Notice how I said someone white because blacks call white people all kinds of names all the names make jokes about them everything but if it was the reverse the NAACP would be protesting 2) That you cannot acually say or do something by mistake or actually voice your opinion anymore because some may be "offended". This guy has been behind C. Rice for years as a supporter and he really wants her to be president. I think this whole situation is stupid. There are other situations that people have acually done something. I don't believe this is one.

Comment: Why was he fired? I'm sure Condi wouldn't have minded him calling her that since she is one who says there is no racism in the USA. Give him his job back!

Name: blackman
Comment: >Herbs I agree. Do you think the guy would have been fired if he slipped and said n'gga? >mcOREO ..*YAWN*

Comment: Hell, he was telling the truth...LOL

Comment: >fanteeking - your PASTOR dropped the f-bomb in the pulpit and that's alright with you. Wow! If that happened at my church, the place would just go silent. What church do you attend, the 3-6 Mafia Pimpin' Ain't Easy AME 1st Baptist Mt. Calvary Community Trinity Gangsta Lean Church of the A-T-L? Who does the music, Master P? Is there a VIP section? Do you get a bottle of Moet when you sit in VIP? Does your church have bouncers instead of ushers?

Name: Angel
Comment: JamerDelta - Uh...what word was your pastor trying to say and the F word came out?!? That wasn't a slip of the tongue...he forgot where he was. LOL Something tells me that when he's not in church, he cusses up a storm.

Name: NewSchoolPrincess
Comment: wow so i am not the only one that caught that the pastor has a nasty mouth. i dont know the man but sounds like a dead cat on the line. and as for the pigment impaired man slipping up with the coon word. i bet the only reason he apologized was cuase it was on radio. that might be an every day word for him. shame on you white man for being ignorant...

Comment: LAFFIN' MY FUCKKIN A$$ at a minister preaching and the "F" word slipping out! I'm glad I wasn't there. I would have been laughing out loud for real.

Comment: COON, that's just one name they use for black people...I wish I could have just pinched (holding tight)is lip off.

Comment: I caught that blackman..mcOERO..too funny.

Name: fanteeking
Comment: >Queeniebunz: He wasn't my pastor, because since the Iraq war broke out and NO Black pastors have spoken out against the war, I've been staying at home. I may be wrong, but I'm disappointed in the Black pulpit these days and the lack of backbone. I grew up with the Minister and he was preaching and inadvertently blurted out the "F" word. He apologized and continued to preach. In defense of the white DJ, I was born and raised in Indianapolis and have a strong southern Tenn./Indiana accent. When I lived in Englewood NJ for 15 years, I was told I sounded like Muhammad Ali who is from Louisville, KY. Many moons ago, I was describing a New Jersey lady, I admired and wanted to date and I said, "Oh man, she's so fine with her big, pretty EYES! Everybody in the party stopped and gasped because old folks were there and I had to explain that we Naptonians pronounce "EYES" as "%*$" and "BABY DOLL" as "BABY DIAL". I meant to say "EYES", but I got a Indiana/Kentucky/Tenn. accent. It ain't my fault. This guy was PRAISING Condi (I detest her so) so it wouldn't follow that he would call her a coon. He meant to say that it would be a "big coup". Can my EUR siblings understand where this country boy is coming from?

Name: fanteeking
Comment: Let me clarify 'cause the censors bit me. Naptonians pronounce "EYES" and it sounds like "A. S. S." I NEVER wanted to loose my southern accent in New Jersey, because I was proud of my heritage. I didn't want to play "New York Slick".

Name: Winn30344
Comment: I see what you're saying fanteeking and I know that he supports Condi Rice but that word obviously has been used before and it wasn't because he was talking about a raccoon so even if he didn't mean to call Condi Rice that he's used that word before in reference to Black people and that's why it slipped out so fast.

Name: fanteeking
Comment: >Win30344: I understand your rationale. If EVERYBODY in America were to lose their jobs because an inadvertent slip of the racially offensive tongue then NOBODY would have a job. I KNOW I've said mean, racist things about white folks vis a vis white oppression and racism and I'm sure many of the folks who are glad that he got fired have done the EXACT same thing. I ain't gonna git on my high horse and condemn this DJ for his mistake because I've made a lot in my life and will make many more before I leave this galaxy. We're all HUMAN and I repeat, "To err is human, to forgive, divine. Let he/she who is without imperfection and clairvoyant, please calleth me and giveth me thy correct POWERBALL numbers for Saturday, thus saith thine FANTEEKING. AMEN!

Name: Winn30344
Comment: I use to work for the Urban League and called a yt person an offensive name and got fired. I meant to say it but didn't mean for this other person to hear it who promptly told on me. So yep mistakes happen but we have to pay for them regardless if they were meant or not.

Name: VickiE
Comment: I'm willing the bet that won't be the last thime someone says coon in reference to Coon-do-lee-sah. His immediate apologize at least counts for something. Of course, I'm not worrying about this guy. He'll be fully employed shortly. Just like others that made racist comments on the air: Rick Barry (Bill Russells "watermelon" grin), Jimmy "The Geek" (During the slave period, the slave owner would breed his big black with his big woman so that he would have a big black kid—that's where it all started) etc. They will continue on with their careers pretty much without skipping a beat.

Name: Gemami
Comment: I’m actually divided because I don't believe he should be fire but should have been fined or suspended. What he said was wrong but he immediately apologized. However, I think, for us, Blacks, our bigger issue is ourselves. We need to hold ourselves more accountable. We need to stop laughing at “coon” jokes, calling ourselves %*$!( as a term of endearment and financially supporting child molesters. Also, we need to hold our pastors and clergy accountable for their words and actions. I went to a service where the pastor said “damn” and instead of apologizing he said “I’m human”. BS. How would he feel if someone said “Damn, Pastor, that sermon was right on time”. All he would here is the cuss word not the compliment.
