Comment: This report is very accurate. Several statements hit home for me while reading this article. Two years ago, I lost my Mother to this dreaded disease. Trying to get medical help for her became a full-time job. The medical society in this area did not want to help me help her or help her. You can't image what we went through. African American women are truly, truly ignored. I had to fight for her like hell every time my Mother had an appointment or treatment. Doctors often felt that she was Black and too OLD (84) to save. You can't image being completely helpless trying to save the most important person in your life. She had the best medical insurance that money could buy but, everyone felt that she was a lost cause. Being her daughter, I could not accept the fact that no one else wanted to help us. I traveled all over the south looking for help. After she passed, all the medical society I had attempted to enlist or had enlisted during our fight for her life had the nerve to attend her funeral. I ignored them all and they wondered why.
I can only hope that this progress will be made soon and all over the world. Eliminating the disparities -- not in this lifetime for women of color.
