Comment: What a judgmental nation we live in! The Puritanical ghosts that haunt this country spin various groups into overdrive when it comes to certain issues. In black folks' case, homosexuality seems to be at the top of the list, if not, certainly a close second. It's my experience that there are four points of view about homosexuality: hate it, could care less about it, in it/of it/all about it/have flexibility, will travel, and, in it/of it/ain't never gonna admit involvement (It's been my experience as a black man that this last point of view is more prevalent amongst black males). Well, because of social facism (i.e., think like me, dress like me, talk like me, walk like me, have sex like me, etc,etc...or I'll destroy your life) we have a level of denial that borders on mental disease. I challenge everybody out there to be more tolerant--IMMEDIATELY!!! Rejection is a m*thaf*ka! Live and let live, and there won't be all these non-drug using sistas popping up HIV+. If another dude wants to be hugged, touched and loved by another dude, no matter how much it irks you, you must remember that that is that person's decision and that that decision is between that person and their higher power. Personally, I don't think God cares much about skin rubbing up against skin, save for marriage wherein two parties have stood before Him and swore allegiance and fidelity to one another, and save for rape and child abuse. I've had it preached to me that what we loose on earth is loosed in heaven, what we bound on earth, we bound in heaven (i.e., if you don't eat pork, you've made it a sin in your own mind and in your own life--bound it on earth, bound it in heaven; if you do eat pork, you've loosed it on earth and thereby loosed it in heaven, same thing with your sexual preference). I can't wait to see the DL topic is handled/spun on BET. Who knows, maybe BET will kick the door down and get the DL debate truly out in the open. lulu.com/michaelclayton

Comment: Nanette is right! Down low used to mean keeping a secret - not keeping a secret life! These men are cowardly liars and they are gay.

Comment: WE have to be careful our own selves not to get caught up in a modern way to break down blacks' unity! Get us scared to love or trust one another...we are already looking at the black man cross eyed. He has enough against him without adding to what he is up against. Homosexuality is in ALL races and it is NOT a phenomenon ONLY amongst black men! The QUESTION is--WHY are black men so afraid to come out and say I AM GAY?! Why be so deceitful and in doing so HURT the black woman because you like d--- as much as she does? TIRED of this mess...the black women needs to RAISE her standard as a woman as to what she will put up with and what she won't, LOVE GOD more than any man, stop allowing being alone to lead to desperate acts... Men are getting over on us because more often than not these days WE are the ones that are too fast for our own good. Won't bat an eye---share a another woman's man, have a baby without ANY commitment whatsoever, laying up with absolutely NO protection, believing candy sweet words with NO actions to back it up, take up with guys your Mama TOLD YOU was not right... STOP blaming this and that and take GOOD CARE of yourself.

Comment: Stscott you're right! Women stopped expecting excellence and we ended up with the bums, the dregs and the downlo kneegrows that are the biggest liars.

Comment: I agree we as women, especially single women, need to take more responsibility for our health and our bodies. We need to love God and ourselves above “having a man”. I just feel that in order for us to unite in love we need to stop blaming each other or one or the other and realize HIV/AIDS is a battle we need to fight together. We need to stop being blind and open our eyes to the truths that’s in front of us. Unprotected sex, unwed pregnancy happens between a man and woman, so to single out or blame women, to me, just isn't fair. Black men are allowing themselves to become statistics because we, the Black community, do not hold them accountable for their wrongs. We need to hold a man with five kids by different mothers just as accountable as a woman with five kids. We call a promiscuous man a stud, allowing him to brag about his conquest while a woman with more than one sexual partner is immediately a hoe left to feel ashamed. A women who has sex with women and men is bi-sexual while we are allowing bi-sexual men to hid by labeling them “heterosexual men who have sex with men”. I just feel until we hold Black men to the same accountability and code of ethics as we hold Black women, Black men would continue to take advantage of their situations and not reach their true potential as leaders.

Comment: Denial isn't killing us - but sin is, and that is what homosexuality is - sin, like it or not, believe it or not. Just because it exist in our culture don't make it right - a lot of things exist within our culture and it ain't right - the list is long! People get upset because you won't validate their nasty lifestyle.

Comment: As an African-American woman, I agree with the comment. Black men are in denial or anyone for that matter, to say they are heterosexual but enjoy having sex with the opposite sex every now & then. Either your heterosexual, bi-sexual, or homosexual: Pick one. I strongly believe this behavior is self-fish. From what I have read about this topic, these men have unprotected sex and then have unprotected sex with their wives and girlfriends. I believe if your going to be sexually active then you have to be responsible for your self! Protect your self! You can't look at a person and tell if they are on the "Down Low" or whatever. This is one reason I am practicing celabacy and the other reason, I am praying for a husband and I believe God is going to send him to me. A true man of God.
