Comment: You have to go there to understand the hypocrisy on all levels. I am going to a stab at just one the cars. All ove New Orleans there are these flooded out cars. Miles and miles of flooded out cars. If Nagin were to "sell" the cars to a company for $3mill, who do you think would be at fault in 3 years when rusted corroded auto bodies with started showing up on the market? Nagin. His choice to keep himself out of trouble and pay to have them taken away, leaves him free from guilt. Folks talking about bringing families back to the Lower 9th are idiots.... THERE IS NOTHING THERE!!... go home, get a box of toothpicks... throw it on the floor... thats the Lower 9th. I have pictures. Speaking of the Lower 9th anyone who tends to think the levee was blown... You are crazy! Urban Legend.. a barge hit the levee and broke it. the barge landed in the middle of the L9. The levee at 17th St Canal... it was inadequate... anyone whe decided to build a home 30 ft from a levee that holds 23 miles of lake... you are out of your mind.... water is powerful... whose fault was that? the building downtown that still have windows out... the windows are special order there is no cover up it takes time to build them... I could go on and on...

Comment: Outstanding (to say the very least) is the only word close enough for the "notes."
Nawlins is (was) one of those places I hated most of and loved some of. Hadn't seen any of Nagin (cry baby, cry) changes that seemed to make a large difference but did appreciate the warehouse district changes (pre-Katrina.)
Now the Big Easy has a once in many hundred year chance to be something it should be. Will politics and cronyism kill this ugly bird? Probably.
Nagin was just shameful in the Katrina casts- he and Blanco should have duoed at Mum's Ball. What a pair. One of the most corrupt cities in America and the most corrupt state trying to point fingers at a corrupt national government. Even the Republicans I know had to sigh and shake their heads.
Nagin has no national confidence. As the rest of America silently and gradually bemoans the slime-pot being resurrected from their own tax dollars the mayor still comes across as a do-nothing beggar with his hand out.
We need (as people that pay the bills) to remind the folks in Katrina's path that THEY lived there, not us. Live below sea level, next to water, back crooked politicians that waste every resource - - - then don't complain when nature comes knocking.
I started the Katrina 'trials' as Deb, giving Nagin some slack. Then as the Dome and River Front messes along with the idle buses began coming into focus I stepped back and slapped myself. The mayor moved his family OUT and cries about people leaving? What's with dat?
Anyway, the short end is that Nawlins will stay a national disgrace while a funnel for tax dollars is held in place for the entire Gulf region.
On the upside, Katrina gave the national Republican party a glowing opportunity to show the entire world all the wrongs that could be committed during a disaster.
