Comment: I've been a longtime fan of Mo'Nique since I first saw her on Def Comedy Jam years ago. And give me a plus-size honey any day! I'm not hating on smaller size wormen, but I prefer them large and in charge just as long as that extra weight isn't detrimental to their health. As for Mo'Nique. Will you marry me baby???

Name: Luke_Cage
Comment: So excited in my writing about plus size ladies I misspelled the word "women"...

Name: TJthemilitant
Comment: Mo is absolutely right about them 20 something surgeries gastric bypass patients have to go back and forth for..But evidently having weight loss surgery has crossed Mo's, mind but she changed it after doing the research...But when oh when will she let the fat girl sh*t go?!!This is a cable movie at best....

Name: B00TANEB00TUS
Comment: ...OK, so you're fat now what?....Look, I'm not saying you should be walking 'round like Kate Moss...Frankly, I like some meat on those hips and thighs...but dayum, Let's not get into this Fat being Ok sh1t...It's unhealthy...and it dosen't look good no matter how ya stuff it...I find Mo funny at times but attractive no...I have overweight family members...They complain about the back, the knees, they're outta breath all the time...They need extra space...They can't ride in my Z too small...I love 'em to death...I'm just concerned about their health....

Name: TAZBABY
Comment: Mo'nique makes me laugh and I want to see her film. I support her and her Phatness.

Name: RyTay27
Comment: ...Taz, you said it!!! I think she is funny and attractive. Like I always say "Ain't nuthin' wrong with being big"!!!! My man loves my thick *ss!! ;)

Name: bigchassie
Comment: BOOT>you should be concerned because yes, being overweight is not good at all. i myself is a plus-size woman and i also have problems with my knees, my thighs are the bigest thing on my body. but one thing i can say and i agree with Mo'nique. yes, i'm fat too. so what! but i tell you this. i am a big beautiful woman with a loving and giving heart and personality and either you love me or not. the important thing is that i love myself and that is the bottom line. there are no "Perfect" people here on this earth. we come in all shapes and sizes and loving ones self is important. i commend Mo for what she is doing and i wish her all the best too. YOU GO MO! WORK THAT THANG SISTAGUL! RIGHT ON FOR THE BIGSISTAS AND THE MEN WHO LOVE US!

Name: dport
Comment: I agree with Boot. Being fat should be addressed and excersice should be consideration to deal with it. Excersice is good for you and you'll be amazed what it does for your body. Though big gurlz can look good in all sizes I still don't see Monique as attractive. Nor do I see her male interest in this movie as beleivable.

Name: RyTay27
Comment: YEAHHHHHHHHHHH bigchassie... This PLUS sized sista will co-sign that!!!!

Name: MSHELICIA
Comment: i have mad respect for moniqu and as long as she's healthy and happy who are we to judge what she does? at least she's trying to promote being healthy instead of " just be fat " .

Name: Monicia
Comment: Being Big and Beautiful is fine. There are some BBW that are healthy. I admire Monique, because she is "REAL", she is not making any excuses, and she encourages a healthy routine. Gastric bypass is not all it's cracked up to be. Starr Jones is a perfect example! She lost the weight, but she doesnt look healthy. She looks like a bobble head. Some people just don't look good small. I feel if your big, wear clothes accordinly! Some brothers like BBW!!!!

Name: ZYDECODIVA
Comment: ROTFLMAO!! Bobble head!! So true!!

Name: RealSmiles
Comment: What I love best about Mo'nique is her ability to boost confidence and a more positive image for the "large and in charge" sistas out there. She's not saying that being overweight is healthy, she just saying that having the shame and the lack of confidence that comes with being overweight isn't healthy. Girlfriend makes it her point to have a great sense of self-esteem about herself so I say go on with your bad self Mo'nique!

Name: beboyz
Comment: Who pitched this movie? TJthemilitant its not even a cable selection for me. I like Monique but the fat girl Schtick is played out already. Who is going to pay to see this it will probally tank worse than Soul Plane. If it does well I'm happy for her. But I aint paying 8.50 for this.

Name: DCGG
Comment: I'm sick of Monique's fat azz and her ghetto azz movies - she knows damn well she wants to lose the weight just like Star Jones and them; the catch is her weight is her gimmick; she has nothing else to fall on but her fat azz...

Name: McNasty
Comment: Bigchassie girl don't sweat the small stuff. I figured out from your moniker you were packing a powerhouse but regardless of that it was your downhome sistergirl way of speaking on the board that I like. You do you and I will let Mo'nique do her movie too!

Name: 4mybabygirl
Comment: this is 4mybabygirl's husband - Monique is cool and funny and all but she's a hypocrite. Cause where are the big boyz in this movie last I checked 66% of all the black men look like me(average wth an ok job). She complain that these movies are geared to look at skinny women well they are also geared to look at muscle bound men with jobs that only a white women could love. So I guess I should come out with a movie fat boyz 2006: The human beat box strikes back! So let this be lesson to you all never leave your account up while your spouse is home! P.S. Don't hate the person hate the sin.

Name: bigchassie
Comment: McNasty>Thank you sweetie and Right on to you too Monica. much biggul love to you both from the bigchassie. now let me go and do some walking! *smile*

Name: NJBLKGUY
Comment: Monique is really happy, huh? I wonder how happy would she be on a hot, humid day in Miami

Name: CILLA8192
Comment: I think the lot of you are just hatin on this confident woman cause you probably skinny and don't have as much cofidence or self esteem as her she is doing her thing and trying to make a point that you don't have to be skinny to be beautiful just look at the queen latifah she is big and everyone thinks she is beautiful it's just she doesn't address it as often as monique so stop hatin and get you some self esteem and confidence in your life.

Name: mayday
Comment: Good for Monique.....I will wait for the DVD.

Name: TesticAl
Comment: Everyone has a say. Here's my say. I HATE THAT FAT BICH MONIQUE! What up DCGG and the others!

Name: RealSmiles
Comment: Testic...you never let a person down with your comments. What's up backacha!

Name: Platinum
Comment: I am nowhere near MoNique’s size but whenever this topic comes up I always read its “unhealthy” to be that big. Seems to me some people that are so much smaller than Monique (skinny) are diagnose with the same health problems that was mention in this article such as diabetes, high blood pressure and so on.

Name: Southernbelle
Comment: I'm proud of Monique's high self esteem. I think everyone should love themselves despite their weight. But, you are right on 4mybabygirl's husband. From the previews I've seen Monique is head overhill for a dude that is not among the norm. As a matter of fact, the brother is built. If she's promoting self love and respect for people with a little meat on the bones then why didn't she pick a guy that reflects what most men look like?

Name: TesticAl
Comment: RealSmiles, good day to you. I just had to let it be known. LOL!

Name: McNasty
Comment: Testic tell the truth, if given the opportunity you would jump at the chance to jump up and down on Mo'nique!LOL

Name: queeniebunz
Comment: I don't usually agree with Test but I can't stand her either. And I question her esteem. If it didn't matter to her and she didn't feel the need for validation, why does she talk about being fat so much? Queen Latifah doesn't talk about it at all really. And, Queen Latifah stays fit. You can tell that she does some kind of working out. She's about a size 14, maybe 16 and looks fit, with muscles and all. Monique is just a big blob and an angry one at that. She is way too angry about her weight for me to believe that she's cool about it. And, she wrote a book called 'Skinny Girls are Evil' or something like that. Now, I ask you, who is hating, her or me? I think being large is ridiculous. There are gyms around every corner and you can walk outside of your house and walk for a couple of miles and walk the flab off so you don't even need a membership. And to piggyback what someone else said about her being happy in Miami, how happy is she w/her weight when she has to sit on a plane and stuff her big fat body into the seat? Even 1st class is gonna be tight for her big booty. Am I expressing how much I can't stand her hostile hating chunky azz? Good. CAN'T STAND HER! WON'T EVER GO SEE THIS CRAPPY UNREALISTIC MOVIE!!!

Name: Winn30344
Comment: I like Monique and will support her although I agree with some that said the "hate the skinny person" jokes are getting stale. Especially since i'm one of the ones she hates but i'm only 4'11 so... However does anyone notice how she laughs the loudest at her own jokes? Kind of annoying but that's just me.

Name: DallasDiva
Comment: I think big men are more acceptable in society than big women. Take American Idol, Reuben was seen as the "velvet teddy bear" but Mandiza(sp?) was ridiculed by Simon about how she wouldn't make it because she was a big girl.

Name: Calidee
Comment: I wish people would understand that you can not judge a persons health by looking at them. Just because a person is thin does not mean that they are healthy. Generally speaking most people do not care about the health of strangers. If they did, then they would not single out fat people, but would instead focus on the conditions that would make someone unhealthy, such as lack of exercise or poor nutrition. This would cover the health of both fat and thin people. They would also have more compassion for fat people. As a fat woman, I find it interesting that people want fat people to be miserable. It’s like people want to punish us for being fat. If a man shows interest in a fat woman, then it must be a joke or something must be wrong with him. If a fat woman is dressed nice, what is wrong with saying she looks good. If you are not attracted to fat people, why is it necessary to call us derogatory name? The point that Mo is making in not about physical health. That is not her angle. What she is saying is that fat women should not put their lives on hold. We should pursue the things that would bring joy in our lives, we should not have to explain the skin that we are in, and we don’t have to accept disrespect and mistreatment from others.

Name: StardeGiel
Comment: Seems to me, no one should be hating anyone. Black folks got enough problems dealing in this society, so lets not turn on one another. Some of us are large, some are medium and some are small -- its all good. Perhaps Mo'Nique doesnt like being large, hell its inconvenient and uncomfortable and for some unhealthy. However, it seems Mo'Nique needs to say to herself and the world for now: "Ok, I am Large! So world deal with it until I can deal with it." She isn't promoting being unhealthy. She is promoting self love. I think she needs to feel self love in order to address her size 20 and eventually do something about it. I think she will in time. Let's give her encouragement and support her in saying that large women deserve love, too. They do. Heck, we all do. So, let's spread it around instead of attacking one another.

Name: TesticAl
Comment: McNasty, hell no! That would be like swimmin' in a bowl of Jell-O! LOL! queeniebunz, I agree with the first part of your post 100%, especially the part where you mentioned Latifah.

Name: beegirl
Comment: I'm glad that MoNique inspires self-esteem from her big-boned sisters. No one should have to feel ashamed of herself for looking different. I'm surprised that she was able to milk a whole career out of one joke, but good for her, I guess. However, I don't think it's cool how big women throw around that "60 percent are big" number all the time. Just because a lot of women are overweight, it doesn't cancel out the fact that, for the most part, being overweight can lead to health problems. Yes, some women are naturally born to be bigger, but I think some are just lazy and love to eat. They are the ones with the real health issues, and they shouldn't be encouraged to embrace their situation just because they are part of the majority.

Name: beegirl
Comment: Also, you can tell a lot about what size someone should be by the size of their head. Star Jones does look like a bobble head now, but her size will probably even out as her stomach expands again and she puts on some weight. MoNique's head fits her frame, and you can tell she is probably naturally a big girl. But that girl on the other story, Mandissa, nobody can tell me she is supposed to be that large naturally. Her head is so small compared to the rest of her. It looks like a meatball on top of a pile of spaghetti in that pic.

Name: dsgirl
Comment: Saw the trailer recently and as a big lady (in L.A., no less) I gotta say she's gone into overtime on her 15 minutes. Why not a funny story about a woman who happens to be big and a regular dude who's not cut(which is what most of us end up with, including me)or exotic? I don't hate my African roots but sometimes African men are the least compatible w/the Black American woman as most of us are very independent and strong-willed and they tend to want somebody who is passive and extremely forgiving. Not all cases but most I've know of in real life. Large Black women have the unfair stereotype of being passive (taking any kind of sh-ta man deals her) when it comes to her relationships. Going back to 'The Parkers', I don't know of any sis (or Becky for that matter) who would have put up with that ish that teacher was giving her (Nikki). I understand he started off polite but that was a fvcked up plot to begin with and its a shame not just that it took them 5 years to finish a 2yr college (and nobody had jobs) but she put herself out there to be dissed like that. I think we need more stories about big girls handling business and not trying desperately to catch a man but just let things fall into place.

Name: Beezyuu
Comment: I love Mo'Nique and I think her confidence is great, but I truly think our girl has a hard time trying to diet and exercise so she has already established in her mind that she's going to remain fat. The #1 killer for african americans is hypertention largely brought on by being overweight. I think Mo'Nique might be in denial.

Name: Bertie
Comment: I don't believe Mo is as "confident" as she claims because she is always focusing on her weight, even when no one cares. Lets be real, being a big black woman is acceptable in her industry--hell its a long accepted stereotype in hollywood from Hattie McDaniel, Nell Carter, Oprah, to Latifah. (not to mention the men who profit from playing fat black women like Martin and Tyler Perry) Hollywood loves big black women. Rarely are the majority of sistas (the ones in between Halle/Sanaa petite and Latifah/Monique thick) ever seen on screen. Mo is not being hated on because she's big--she's hated on because she won't shut up about it. Latifah is all over hollywood, presents at the oscars, has covergirl commercial etc, and no one trips on her size. Mainly because she doesn't trip of her size. The only one tripping off Monique's size is Monique.

Name: yunvme
Comment: I'm glad this movie is finally out. I am soooooo tired of seeing those commercials.

Name: NYC1
Comment: >>>Bertie. Your post said it best...Mo'Nique's based her identity on being "fat" instead of being a funny, talented versatile actress. It seems that she's turned the fat debate into a crusade. I don't care how many fat movies you make or books you write, everyone will not agree with you. Agree to disagree, move on...and do you.

Name: sweetpea
Comment: I remember the first time I saw Mo'nique on Comic View. Mo'nique was much smaller then than she is now. I believe the extra weight she is carrying does bother her because she is always talking about it. A person should be comfortable in their own skin. If that means bigger great, if that means smaller great; as long as your healthy and happy. I know for myself at 5'4 and 150lbs, this is too much weight for me to be carrying. I'm more tired, out of breath and I feel like I am carrying around a piece of concrete. It is uncomfortable to me physically. I prefer my weight to be at 130 that is where I am comfortable and I feel I look the best. That's what it's about. Mo'nique should stop hatin' on smaller women. To each his own.

Name: goodnplenty1957
Comment: is it wrong for a man who knows what he likes "visually"?? Some men like women built for comfort, some like them built for speed. is it wrong for a person to say he isnt into BBW's and then get cussed out? i am not into alot of things, but that dont make it wrong. as long as i dont disrespect you, its all about my preference. there are alot of women out there who aren't into me because i am either too light, bald, or too short (i am 6ft tall). thats their choice.

Name: Closet_Nerd_Girl
Comment: >Goodnplenty- I'd holla at you- You sound like my husband! He's light, bald and 6'2". LOL!

Name: Closet_Nerd_Girl
Comment: >Beegirl- LOL at the plate of spaghetti!!!To me, Mandisa is out of proportion. The top half of her body is way too small for the bottom half. That makes her look much bigger than if her top and bottom "matched." Monique's body is in proportion and she has a waistline, so to me she doesn't look bad. If she would "firm up", she would look much better. Queen Latifah is large and fit. She looks good, and I bet she's healthier than alot of skinny chicks.

Name: Gemami
Comment: Bertie, excellent, excellent points. I was thinking the same thing about Latifia and Monique. Latifia is a beautiful woman who happens to be thick while Monique is a big beautiful woman. Being big is Monique's trademark where her quick wit should be. I, like alot of people are more accepting of Latifia because she doesn't focus on her weight... it's not her issue. Also, like you said Hollywood is more accepting of BBW than Black women of average weight. Take Vivica Fox as an example; she is now this skinny being that doesn't look right, which is sad because she had a nice body before.

Name: Gemami
Comment: goodnplenty1957, there is nothing wrong with knowing what you like and admitting that BBW are not your thing. Like I don't find big men like Gerald Levert or Ruben Studdard attractive but alot of women love these "teddy bears". I can't see men like this being versitle... either they arn't flexible or they are out of breath or they are sweating like a pigs. So I understand.

Name: kbig
Comment: What phat girl is going to be in the theater saying, "Mo'Neck is eating her avocado facial! How hilarious!" ? Mo'Neck is okay but I still can't forgive her for 'Minstrel...I mean 'Soul Plane'. Between her and her ni**a jokes and John Witherspoon's needin' to take a sh1t in every movie, I'm just burned out. Mo'Nique always looks like a big phat baby to me, for real and she's been on the cover of 'Essence' about 4 times talking about romance. I just want to give her a teething ring and some animal crackers. I'd love it if she showed some intelligence sometimes.

Name: dutches150
Comment: I can understand where alot of you are coming from. But like the song says, "Some do, Some don't, Some would, Some won't, Whatever makes you happy". If you don't like hearing about it then don't listen to it. And maybe, just maybe, Mo is still talking about being big because society and the world is still trying to stuff down our throats that looking like a supermodel is what everyone should look like.

Name: Platinum
Comment: LOL kbig that’s funny and I agree… lol

Name: chryshelisonline
Comment: I think Monique spurs a lot of debate because of her confidence or conceit, however you choose to look at it. As a fuller woman that's in shape and for the most part healthy, I constantly have to check people that think or assume all of my issues are related to my weight. This has happened much more frequently since Monique has been on the scene...it's like we're all in the same club and she's the president. If I had a choice to compare myself to a "fuller" celebrity, it would be Oprah, and that's because she is who I most look like. She didn't get this kind of dialogue during her pre-liquid diet days. In addition to just being too vocal, I think Monique is overexposed and it doesn't help that she exudes this ghetto-fabulous persona going back to the days of The Parkers. If movies made a greater effort to represent fuller women that looked like Oprah and Latifah in positive, romantic roles, this would be a non-issue.

Name: Bertie
Comment: yeah Gem--I just feel like Mo needs to chill on the fat crusade and just tell some jokes. Plus I think Hollywood is scared to deal with the true beauty, sensuality and sexuality of regular looking sistas--so its easier for them to use funny "big" girls or lite, brite damn near white looking black women that conform to a eurocentric beauty model in movies, than display your regular looking black woman as a beauty standard.

Name: Untouchable
Comment: I like Monique, but she is in denial about the health risks that goes along with being too overweight. There is no such thing as the perfect size and some people look good with weight on them, but too much can be dangerous. Just like too little (anorexia) can also be dangerous. So I wish she would stop promoting acceptance of being overweight. It seems like she is doing that because she can't lose the weight herself. I believe it's OK to accept yourself but admit when it is time to make changes to ones diet. I don't mean to offend but I also can't help but notice that hollywood is quick to make big stars out of African-American women who are either overweight like Queen Latifah, Monique or not very attractive (Whoopi Goldberg,Afre Woodard) and put them in movies and popular tv shows but are slow to promote attractive, slimmer African American women. Halle has been the only one allowed to become famous and that had a lot to do with her being biracial. I hope this trend ends, and more attractive African American women ALONG with a variety of African American women start to get more opportunities to be famous.

Name: goodnplenty1957
Comment: gemani> i understand..i always say intrigue me VISUALLY, impress me MENTALLY. i didnt say i wasnt attracted to BBW's. i dont want a lady who if she turned sideways, she'd dissappeared either. i like a little comfort. (smile)..the junk in da trunk..the motor booty, the stool gripper...all of dat with the big breastsesses!!

Name: goodnplenty1957
Comment: psst Closet...holla at a brotha. (smile)...oh and thats quiet as kept!

Name: shan
Comment: If Monique were so confident about her shape, she wouldn't talk about it 24/7. Do you hear Latifah ranting on and on about how much of a BBW she is? No! Because the Queen is secure within herself and has more going for her than just being overweight. Monique needs to get a reality check.
