Comment: well, at least she had seven years of pay checks in syndication, i don't know where her ratings are in comparison with judge judy, but i know they wouldn't messed with judy. i'll miss mablean, but at the same time another sista judge is getting a shot! i knew something wasn't right though, black folks don't just up and quit jobs like that!

Comment: I'm sure Mablean saved and invested her money well so she can take her time and find something suitable for her. I never really liked her hair style (or wig), but besides that she was a fair judge and she certainly had a style of her own.

Comment: I'm sure glad she explained those tired wigs!! Too bad she couldn't get what she wanted, Like Utopia said, another sister will be getting a check. Also that they decided to for the most part to be honest, she wanted more money, they said no and then called her "nappy headed" (just playing, I her her luck.

Comment: Right on Ms.Mabel, stand your ground, they need you, not the other way around. We need more people of color, to take a stand. You made the Net work what it is today. And you paved the way, for others. Now I do enjoy seeing Hackett, and Mathis, but I really enjoyed seeing you. I'll be looking out to see you again soon, in the lime light. Who know, I just made need a ride, when, I come to L.A. you have a pleasant Limo Service. Keep your head up. This happen in the same matter once, to a very well know Black news reporter in S.F.,Ca. about 20 years ago. She showed them too, she never missed a beat. Good bless you

Comment: Judge Judy made $28 million last year according to Forbes Magazine. My guess is that Judge Mablean was not making that kind of money. Crazy thing is that Mablean's replacement is a black female judge from Cleveland Heights, OH...I wonder if she agreed to wear that wig????? Mr. SL8

Comment: Here we go again making an issue of a sister's hair! The only reason I choose to try and continue to support the show is because another sister is taking her place. It is yet to be seen whether she will bring flavor and energy like Judge Mablean. I'm also glad she's walking away with the truth and her integrity and know she will do well where ever she ends up.

Comment: I was more concerned with the way she did her job than the way her hair was. As long as it wasn't the colour of a circus clown, but i think the main issue here was the money.Good luck in your future endeavours.

Comment: Really enjoyed her show. The one thing that we have to keep in mind, if you don't own your show ala Oprah, then you really have to follow the script. Think about Judge Judy, the spanish lady,...even Katie Couric..their looks have remained the same over the years. Noone is ever bigger then the network..

Comment: Goldie1 - Obviously, they don't need her because they hired someone else. LOL I never liked her hair when she had those different color streaks in it. It just didn't fit what I would consider appropriate for a judge. I guess to prevent any "surprises" they thought making her stick with a certain wig was the best route.

Comment: Industrypro - That's what I'm sayin. She didn't own jack and it's not like she's sought after like a Katie Couric or even Judge Judy. I wish her the best, but I'm quite sure that her time in the entertainment industry has come to an end unless a big trial pops up soon and Court TV picks her up as a correspondent. She'll probably become a motivational speaker or something close to that, if she doesn't go back into the legal arena.

Comment: She is not the first person asked to maintain a certain hairstyle because of a TV show. White actors are asked to do it all the time, so I don't think the issue is racial. If her ratings were all that, then they would not have let her go that easily. Green is still the most important color. As for her show, I didn't like it...the people were ghetto/trailer park and it was not quality TV. I've seen her on other things and I do like her, but I am not sorry she is off that show. She can do better.

Comment: Atty. Mablean please get over yourself. A major reason she never got the payday of the other TV judges is she was NEVER on the bench! All of the other shows feature former, actual judges who were singled out/approached for thier TV debut. She was a trial attorney who was cast as a 'judge' and there in lies the problem. If you are willing to walk away from a syndication deal because of a bad perm/tight wigs---time was up regardless.

Comment: Didn't that other black female judge (her name escapes me) let her hair grow? I remember her hair being really short and now it is shoulder length.... I also believ e that the Latino judge COLORED her hair and has had it in different styles. So, I ask-- what is the difference and why do they have a problem with Judge Mablean? I did notice that she had a burgundy streak in one of the wigs...

Comment: LAWDHvMrcy - I think you are talking about Judge Hatchette. I don't think it's about the length of hair or whether it's colored or not. It's the TYPE of style and the TYPE of color. I don't watch Divorce Court, but I have seen a few seconds while changing the channel and there was a time she had this style that seemed totally inappropriate for a judge. She had these red and blond highlights and it looked like someone started a campfire on her head. I was like "what in the world is going on on top of her head?!?". I'm pretty sure the producers on the show said the same thing.

Comment: Mablean is country yall ...what you expect LOL. Atleast she didn't have Tina Knowles doing her hair it would have looked even crazier. LOL.
Anyways she was always the "ghetto" judge to me. I mean that's cool and all if that's what you like to see she always had an attitude and was hard on the brothers IMO.
But I still wish the sister well. Hopefully she'll get some fashion tips and a better deal someplace else. One thing I was always taught was that seven is the number of completion and 8 is the number that represents new beginnings so her journey should not be in vain.
Peace.

Comment: Whether or not you like the show, the issue is that she was not treated the same as her colleagues. If her ratings were satisfactory, she should have been offered a similar pay and perks as the others'. There is no mention that Fox was not pleased with her work performance or ratings. This is petty. Welcome to the U.S.A. It's important to always remember "It's all about ME, because on the other side it's all about THEM". Handle YOUR business and make decisions that are in YOUR best interest, because no one else is concerned about your or yours, or what is fair to you. And BTW, Katie Couric has changed hairstyles

Comment: Well on the episodes of celebrity fit club and some red carpet shots I've seen them braid she was sportin were NOT becoming to her face. And yes some of those wigs were a H.A.M. (hot arse mess) on a stick. I am in agreeance money is the key. But, for everything there is a season. So I too wish her the best.

Comment: It's not true that anchors and the like keep the same look. I have heard it happening, but it should be refuted, like Mablean did. Katie Couric had various looks through her years and Judge Hattett's hair had grown out. Mablean's hair was becoming her trademark and I'm sure she didn't want t be defined by her hair (although I hated her wig, I liked down to earth personality). Also, she should get paid the same as other court show judges. She's brought in the ratings and they knew she wasn't a judge when they hired her.

Comment: as far as shows in her genre, the latest ratings show judge mablean was tied for third behind judge judy and judge joe browne, she was tied with the peoples court.her show was in the top shows as far as all syndicated tvshows.so she does deserve to be paid.as far as her hair,i would believe that she would know what is illegal since she knows the law i bet more than any of us on here.
the thing that gets me is that many of you are saying you will support the show because they have another sista coming on . thats why we dont get anywhere, here this person is obviously getting the shaft, but we arent upset about it because another sista will be on. i say if we are really as intelligent as a race as some of you pontificate daily on this site,we would no offense to the lady coming on,not support the show.they knew if they put another black on the show we (or most)would continue TO WATCH, which is the bottom line. for one i will not watch until she comes back and i have written these foul folks and let them know.stop going with the flow and stop being used.all your comments justify their move and dont think they arent reading them in their office.YOU PEOPLE ARE PAWNS.

Comment: nylaconnect, you make a good point. The fact that they are brining another sister really doesn't matter. I really haven't thought about boycotting the show but I support and have tremendous respect for Mablean for standing by her guns and standing up for equal pay. Lastly, are they going to pay this new sister the same as the other judge shows? Probably not -- so another sister gets the shaft.

Comment: Mablean should be happy. Good riddance to bad rubbish. The black folks who went on that show made themselves look so ignorant. And Fox obviously didn't want to pay her because they were sure black judges were interchangeable and that we would watch as long as a black face was on there, which it seems as if many will do. As for her hair, my mother has a short hairstyle, and she will be in the shop for 4 hours making sure it is rolled just right. ha ha. Then Mablean had hers falling out, needing wigs, etc. You know "they" don't understand our hair, so it doesn't surprise me that they wanted to put it in the contract. Plus, TV stars always talk about how they need to keep their hair a certain way contractually and if they want to change it, they have to ask permission. It might not be right, but Mablean shouldn't have been all that shocked.

Comment: Katie Couric is hardly her colleague. For one thing, it is a different network and a different kind of show. Second, AGAIN, if her ratings were that great they would have kept her and tried to work out a plan. They wanted her out badly because in my opinion cutting out the annual dinner was beyond petty. Asking her to not to change her hair is not illegal because it is the entertainment industry and everything is based on the look THEY want you to have. If Katie Couric came in with some crazy hairdo, and the viewers complained, she'd have to change it as I'm sure her appearance is part of her contract.

Comment: If it looks and sound like a duck, most likely it is. Judge Mablean has been around the block so she is able to recognize manure when it's dealt. It' s pretty much the same when your daughter gets taken by a slick talking, greasy, seedy man and you tell her you've seen his kind before. Mablean has seen this behavior before. It may not be her personally; It may reside in the company she keeps, such as; other wealthy, educated, pro-active community activist that they have the problem with.

Comment: Mablean will be fine. Good for her. She represented as a dark-skinned, beautiful sista of a certain age and to do that for 7 years is an accomplishment. The show had gotten even more stupid but it was a hoot, no question. The way she'd be tellin' the dudes and ladies "to stop spreadin' y'all's legs was funny." Divorce Court, in and of itself, is a good show to watch when you're single because there are some FINE people on there who, in real life, are too stupid to sleep with much less marry, so it showed the reality of picking a penny-ante, bamma-azz ruffneck. Much success to Mablean.

Comment: Judge Mablean has done a great job whether she is a real judge or not.
If the allegations against her employer is true. Then we should boycott the new show ! To support it is to support their actions and views
which are defintiely racist!
When will we stand up as a community?
Basically they are saying we can place
a black face on it and no one will notice!

Comment: It's strange how Judge Mablean was looking right to get your ratings up, and now you want her to work for less than her counterparts. Maybe you are not aware that we do not watch this show because of her hair do. We watch her show because she gives good advice. She is a very nice looking woman. She is a reputable African American woman. And once again, Fox 40 is leaning towards discrimination. Many of our congregation want everyone to stop watching Fox 40. I am willing to hold on until I see some apology and some more monies for this great lady.
