Comment: Well this is a debate black america needs to have, because we're the ones most affected by illegal immigration. We keep hearing that illegals "do jobs americans wont do", which is a lie since if the illegals werent here those jobs would be done by Americans, mostly poor and minority (including black) Americans. When people really mean when they say that is that illegals do those jobs at substandard wages, often without benefits, and most americans dont want to do those jobs at depressed wages. That by itself makes brings to light an obvious fact, that illegala, by depressing wages, are makeing it harder for those at the bottom of the economic chain, including a lot of blacks and LEGAL immigrants. Unfortunately too many of our leaders dont want to seem anti-Latino by opposing illegal immigration. So they think they should stand beside "our latino brothers" on this issue. Too bad they dont realize that "our latino brothers" as a community are looking out for their own interests, and its about time we do the same, instead of selling out poor blacks. If our so-called "black leadership" wont speak up for them, then who will?

Comment: Yes, Dr. Smooth I agree with you a 100% Its like so called black leaders like Al and Jesse, that's keeping us down! We need to stand up for our own. Not them latino's they don't care about us, Man we as a people better wake up now! They our using our black so-called voice like Al & Jesse to get what they need.Come on people look and you will see. If the Bullshit law is passed, in 5-10 years we as blacks will be low class people and the latino's will be middle & first class. And all the job will be gone too them. Listen they are saying these low class immigrants our doing jobs that we as americans don't won't to do that? Bullshit. Who was doing this before they seeked there butts over to america. They are keeping & taking jobs now from our kids. Like fast food joints and other stores that would enployee our teenage kids, just look around you black people. Comment: This guy is really beginning to annoy me on this issue. He can't be that passionate about Illegals. We have more pressing issues in the black community. The key word for this issue is ILLEGAL!!!!! Is Earl being paid to consistantly hock this issue? Give it a rest chum.

Comment: I agree 1000% DoctorSmooth. It's very frustrating to see how this is being swept under to rug...lawbreakers are simply 'demanding' rights now. If I tried to do something, it would NOT be tolerated. Note, I live in what used to be a very nice middle class neighborhood. The problem is that prices kept rising. Now, these people are putting 20-30 people in a single family home. I am being affected by this. I am having to deal with the ramifications of overcrowing on my street now. The schools in MY neighborhood are now overcrowded with non english speaking individuals whose parents (dare I say) are illegal. Crazy stuff, crazy stuff, I am disgusted by these politicians who are pandering to these people and who refuse to enforce the law. One simple thing would have prevented this years ago...enforcing the law. AND ANOTHER thing...all these kids that the illegals are having should NOT be citizens. That law was not meant to help circumvent laws, it was meant to deal with the children of slaves. PERIOD. I'm disgusted.

Comment: This is just another wedge issue that the fascist use to have people fighting over scraps. Wake up folks, we fall for this %*$!, time after time, be interacially or intra-racially. While we do this, look at the theft by Haliburton, worldwide, look at your gas prices, your health cost, your housing cost. We have to align with other people of color and hash these things out, as opposed to being bamboozled. The chairman of Exxon got a retirement package of $686 million dollars. Need I say more?

Comment: i've found several black and latino immigrants have, until recent events, been dismissive toward the historical struggles of black americans, citing our "weakness" and "inferiority" in allowing jim crow and other atrocities during the civil rights movement to occur. they seem to also lack understanding or empathy of how what went down then still effects what's going down now. i'm pro-immigration but i just hope this experience will illuminate the debt all people of color in the USA owe to the fannie lou hamers and ct vivians of history. another issue is the oppressively catholic beliefs of latino immigrants because that narrow-mindedness will only further the agenda of the right wing for whom they will vote in blocs over such non-issues as abortion and gay marriage.

Comment: Also of importance, they do not pay taxes into a system where they receive free education, health care and other services. WTF. And the reason Repubs and other affluent individual do not care is they employ immigrants and pay them on the cheap (house servants, landscapers, etc). So as a whole, we are out of luck and no one has our back.

Comment: shag11 - Part of OUR problem is that we are so busy sniffing up everyone elses butt that we don't take care of ourselves. Believe me, no one wants to align themselves with us. Let me repeat myself - NO ONE WANTS TO ALIGN THEMSELVES WITH US - I don't know where you live, but as I said, I live in California. It is different. The fact of the matter is, the illegals are breaking the law. Pure and simple. It should not be tolerated. It would not be tolerated by me doing it - do you know of any mass Haitian entry points that are ignored? Me either. Anyway...the law is the law and I am being affected by our governments refusal to enforce it and i'm sick of it.

Comment: I agree with Cedent, blacks always trying to be inclusive of everybody. Most hispanics or Latinos identify with being white, and they are racist against blacks. Black Latinos don't want to identify with being black. They will tell you, I am Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican, or Latino, before they will say they're black. All you have to do is turn your television to all 3 Spanish speaking stations, and you will see all white faces. If you see a Afro Latino in a Spanish soap opera, they are slaves, or the housekeepers. I live in Washington, D.C., and I see what illegal immigration is doing to destroy my black middle class neighborhood. My community is becoming a Salvadoran barrio. It's my understanding from Los Angeles black talk show host, Terry Anderson, blacks are disappearing in Los Angeles. I don't support illegal immigration, or giving citizenship to illegal aliens.
