Comment: This should be real interesting. From what I hear Durham is predominantly Black/working class and that is the jury pool for this trial (unless they get a change of venue). So thats good for the victim. But these lacrosse cats have money--so look for alot of dirt to come out about this sista to discredit her. In any event--she'll get some money on the civil side--if there's enough evidence for a criminal indictment--then there'll be more than enough evidence to get a fat settlement in a civil trial.

Comment: You're so right Harriet. This woman has nothing to gain by lying. Heck, if anything she'll be made to look like the ultimate slut. The fact that she is a stripper with two kids and whatever other skeletons out there, makes her a defense attorneys dream. After they finish with her she'll wish she would have just kept quiet about the whole thing. At the end of the day it will be her standing trial. I feel sorry for her.

Comment: They have yet to be able to contest one shred of her initial statement. A lack of DNA means nothing for most rape cases are prosecuted minus DNA. I saw her father and her cousin on Nancy Grace last night and her father said that she cried all night long the day it was revealed that there was no DNA match. She knows exactly what she is in for yet she has not rescinded one word of her initial claim. The medical examiner gave a report to that grand jury to convince them to indict so that it is more sensible to believe that she is not lying than to believe that she is lying. Tawana Brawley is the only Black Woman that America can pull up when it comes to lying and rape and yet her one lie seems to disqualify all other Black Women who bring forth allegations of rape. That is not fair. When white women cry rape the byatch who clamied that Emmit Till whistled at her isn't thrown up in thier faces and as a Black Woman, I am pretty much sick of Tawana being thrown up in mine.

No matter because if they did this they should be punished past the limits of the law. Once the legal system has run it's course - the neighborhood needs to take it's turn at this LaCrosse team. You do realize that the neighborhood around Duke is the Hood?! I'm surprised that the brothers haven't been sending messages of some sort to these white boys and their friends to let them know not to get too comfortable on them azzes cause that's exactly what they are after!

Comment: Harriet Tawana Brawley isn't defending Tawana Brawley and she is the only one to carry the burden and stigma of lying about being raped. I understand what you're saying but this case and the investigation drug on a little longer than was necessary so the last thing I want to hear about is her past and TB. I want the evidence and this young lady to be able to tell her story and these boys get more than the punishment they deserve - they specifically targeted a black woman and my spirit is not settled on that just yet.

Comment: McNasty- My spirit is not settled with that at all. I am not cool with seeing drunken white boys make plans to rape, skin and then kill a Black Woman for fun. This is 2006 and not 1886 yet as a Black Woman I am still threatened by random acts of hatred and violence at the hands of crazed mobs of white boys and I am not pleased with that at all. It is also upsetting me, as you mentioned, that Duke is surrounded by the "hood" and out of that jungle there has not come forth one "brother" with a bucket and a rope in his hand the way I saw that white man arrested in court because he went down to hang the demented cracker who kidnapped, raped, brutally murdered then stored in the closet for later consumption, the little ten year old white girl. The outrage of that man at what had been done to that little girl is the same outrage I would like to see from brothers but do not and that doesn't sit well with me either, nor does the fact that part of the reason white boys think that they can beat and rape a Sister with impunity and for "fun" is because they listen to Black men rap about demeaning Black Women and exploiting Black Women in thier videos. They hear about them abandoning us and know that we are left alone and think that we will be caught off guard defenseless just like we USED to be. But today is not yesterday and we are no longer defenseless whether we are alone or not. This Sister is fighting back and as long as she is fighting we should be supporting her and not "hoping" that she is telling the truth. Again, it is not standard procedure for us to lie about rape. We are more likely to lie about an orgasm than we are a rape.

Comment: The fact that they never quoted any of the officials (police, or hospital workers) in any of these stories tells you this girl has a case. If she didn't they'd be selling their story to the highest bidder. He didn't express outrage, but just said he hoped justice would prevail. I went to college in Colorado with a lot of these "Lacrosse type" black folks. Many wouldn't speak to me on campus ESPECIALLY if they were with their white friends. They wouldn't attend our parties or social meetings and loved to join white fraternities or sororities. On of them got his azz beat at a cowboy bar and I just looked at him and didn't lift a finger. If you can't speak to me on campus, I ain't gonna help you fight Colorado, racist cowboys! No one should be raped, its degrading and forceful, however, what a lot of young folks do not understand is that these same folks that spit on us, wieghted Emmitt's body down, hosed us down with water, these fools are still alive, and they are teaching their children and grandshildren to be hateful but to shrewdly show it in another way. I would have never ever, went into a place with all males whether white or Black, but especially white, because I know if a Brother usually wants nothing to do with you he won't touch you, but a mean ole hateful dickless white boy will try to do something to me, because of his hatred and intimidation..Wake up People, it has not changed and it is not over until we are wiser and start using our brains and stopped getting tricked....Peace my brothers and Sisters.
