Comment: i only saw the Oprah show about this..and all i can say is: unless you were white, growing up in the middle of the "hood" and not in the vanilla suburbs, no matter what the old saying will always be true, ITS A BLACK THANG, YOU WOULDNT UNDERSTAND.

Comment: Goodnplenty: Now THIS a agreement with you on. I have a very good friend who is white and for as much as she has been around me and my family she just doesn't get it. Very nice girl, but totally clueless.

Comment: She was cuter black! But she's a smart, smart young lady. She's the only one I looked forward to hearing from and I loved her poem on the final episode.

Comment: >star: I definitely agree that she was cuter as a sista. I think they could have changed the locations and situations to make the reality of racial differences in this country hit harder.

Comment: Agreed, she was cuter as a black girl. She really tried and I giver her credit for that.
Next time bring it to NC, Charlote or Raliegh. Progressive southern cities still run the "good ole boys."

Comment: I watched every episode. I believe that Rose grew the most from her experience. Her step-father Bruno is a jerk. I believe he is racist and has no intention of changing. Her mother, bless her soul, reminds me of so many white women I have worked with. She reminds me of the ones who believe being black is such a sad station in life and she would just love to give some of them a job cleaning her house and raising her kids. Now Brian the black father and Renee are so much like me and my family. Meaning I could relate to them. We deal with white people all the time. This ain't nothing new for us. But their son didn't have a clue about being black. He's from Atlanta GA and he doesn't have a problem with white ppl saying the n word. C'mon boy get a clue. I agree they should move this show to a southern city like Birmingham so they can get the TRUTH from both sides. Ok I've talked enough just had to get that out. LOL

Comment: I think Rose got more out of the show than any of them. She was willing to learn and explore. Bruno is an racist and an idot living in his own world and he gets by in life b/c he has dark skin but then then the white race have that thing with him like he's not exactly black and we know he's not white so he gets to play the middle, the mother I agree with someone else oh you beautiful black creatures she has that naive mammy made mentality, but at least she was beginning to get it in some ways.. Renee and her husband should realize that the lack there of from their son greatly falls on them. Here u are living in "little New York" Georgia and your child have not been exposed to black cultural, black museum, etc. what? repeated the sixth and eighth grade. something is amiss where your parenting skills they had been letting him float on through, b/c not once did I ever hear that he was an alternative school or anything.. I agree with the overall majority the show either should have been in the south or the hard core hood areas of a a particular nothern city. So Bruno could have felt the the brunt of things.. One last note I truly wished they could have created an arena where he got pulled over by the cops handcuffed on the side walk and when he would do his ever so polite explaining the cops got to yelling at him telling him to shut up 'gga so and so forth baaabe tell me he would not have gotten it....

Comment: I agree that Rose was the most receptive to her experience and has grown the most from it. Nick and Bruno failed to acknowledge that there were any issues and pretty much didn't see the point of the experiment, therefore neither of them got much out of it. Nick's dad had me rolling on the whole shoe shopping thing. I think Carmen's eagerness may have worked against her but she did put in the effort.

Comment: I thought Brian and Rene were "over the top". They seemed to have so much anger toward White folks, they weren't open to new experiences. Watching them seemed to perpetuate the stereotype that we're (Black folks) an angry people. I'm not denying they probably experienced bigotry in their lives, but you can't blame all White folks for that. As for Bruno, he is "close-minded". His views were simply those of a person who is unable to see any point-of-view other than his own. I don't think he's racist, I just think he's unrealistic. He doesn't even leave room for the idea that Black folks may be discriminated against. Carmen is the type of woman who wants to help everyone, but doesn't seem to know where or how to start. and Nick was a disgrace. His apathy is indicative of many of today's young Black men - "if it doesn't affect me directly, it's unimportant!" I don't think White people can ever completely understand what Black people go through, and I don't think Black people can ever completely understand what White people go through. We are shaped by our environments and our life experiences, and putting on makeup can't take the place of that.

Comment: Brandon,
If you're NOT angry as a Black person, you're not paying attention. And living in Amerikkka, Whites will never understand or care what we go through. Just this weekend in the Washington Post there was a story about a nationwide study of real estate agents that showed that even when Black or Latino homebuyers are better qualified they are asked to produce documentation that Whites aren't and are steered to worse neighborhoods. I've seen studies like this since the 80's they send a Black and a White on a job interview or to look at an apartment and even when the Black person is more qualified they bend over backwards to show preference to YT. It ain't changing.

Comment: Peace, I found this show too superficial for me. It never got down to the entrenched racism that African descendants face in this country. They neglected to put the white father in any situations where discrimination would have been apparent(driving while black). There have been numerous investigative news stories where people have been sent undercover to show how Amerikkka's instituions(banking, real estate, employment, etc) consistantly discriminate against us, this has never been a secret. I felt the show trivalized what we go through.

Comment: >jazzfan, actually I have been paying attention, but it's wrong to blame every White person for the sins of some. That's no more right, than White folks blaming all Black people for the brotha who robbed the White grandmother 10 years ago in Yonkers. I can't be held responsible for something that another Black person did, just as they can't be held responsible for something someone else did. Besides, what is walking around angry going to accomplish? As a father, I taught my kids to absorb as much knowledge as possible; I taught them to walk with their heads held high; and I taught them to never bow down to any man (black, white, hispanic, asian, etc.). My point about Brian and Rene was that their anger was so entrenched in their minds, they seemed to look for anything that would allow them to "point the finger" and say, "See, I told you so...” There's no denying that racism and bigotry exists in America, but walking around angry, and blaming every person with White skin for it is self-destructive and unproductive. Instead, we should be moving toward improving our lives, and the lives of the next generation.

Comment: I didn't bother to watch the show. Sounded too cliche for me. And I'm glad I didn't bother because I don't need to watch a tv show of clueless white people when I have to deal with them everyday on the job and in the real world.

Comment: I thought this show had no significance whatsoever. What was Ice Cube thinking when he created this sorry azz show, but then again he's a rapper so I guess you can't expect too much. You can't paint your skin and become another race and know how it really feels unless your born that way. Ice Cube go take a class in anthropology.
