Comment: Being overweight isn't about whether or not a "man" will ever love you. I think most of us know this is possible. The issue that most of take with the embracing of being overweight (voluptuous and overweight or not synonymous terms) is that it is bad for your health! High blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes are killing us and much of that has to do with unhealthy attitudes regarding proper diet and exercise. It's more than just the superficiality of looks and whether or not a "brother" wants to get with you. What will it matter when you drop dead at 40 of heart attack?

Comment: Darn, I missed this Master P discussion yesterday. But, I just gotta say it. P you're representing New Orleans, huh? Dude you jumped ship a long time ago. You're representing Beverly Hills now. For the feedback writer I wouldn't say P is an idiot. True, he's "hood rich" but the man used his street sense and brought it to the board room. Besides P's onlying blowing smoke. He knows Bow Wow won't stoop to his level.

Comment: FAT people are a turn off. Period. Thats how I feel. It has nothing to do with what the media says. I am not attracted to fat. Its unhealthy, and they usually smell when heated. LOL J/K with that comment. But Fat people need to loose weight period, and quit trying to make it ok to be FAT, because its NOT.

Comment: We are so hard to please… I really believe people are just finding reasons not to see Phat Girlz instead of just admitting the movie didn’t peak their interest. That’s more realistic and honest.

Comment: Gemami: Isn't that the same thing? It didn't peak my interest because I think it promotes an unhealthy lifestyle and I don't find Monique to be very funny. What's more honest than that?

Comment: Yes and no. I can understand that the movie doesn't look interesting, I agree with that, but to say the whole overweight speel, to me, is a crock of bull... all I'm saying, like Mo'K said yesterday, the arguments are consistent. Now, I not saying you personally 'cause I don't know you -- however from reading various posts on this board about various films -- I have to say generally WE aren't consistent.

Comment: What I don't understand is why do we have to be consistent? We are all different. We don't all like the same things, and we have the right to change our tastes as we see fit. For example, if there is a story on Beyonce, the board gets lit up with people who like her and people who don't. Is that wrong? Do we need to get Jesse and Al out to start a United Negro Beyonce Coalition? It's bad enough that some people think all black people look alike, now we have to "like" alike to? The fact of the matter is that people (of all races) didn't flock to the opening weekend of this film. Bickering about it for a week won't change that.

Comment: Consistency in this case would mean we want to see diverse films and we support diverse films, not just support the same old shoot 'em up gangsta movies and then get mad that these are the only films being made. People are hypocrites plain and simple. I do know this, we best not complain any longer about why this person or that movie/song/actor was nominated ever again because we provide the dollars to make it happen. If we support the "hood" movies, they will continue to be made, nominated and awarded, plain and simple--other diverse Black movies go out the window.

Comment: Well, I didn't go see Phat Girlz and I'll tell ya why... My problem with this movie and with Monique overall is that she goes on and on SOOOOOOO much about how she's fat and proud that it begins to sound like she's trying to convince herself. I know plenty of sistas that are on the heavy side and are fly as hell and know it! But they don't walk around day in and day out dogging out skinny women and telling any and everyone that will listen how comfortable they are being overweight. I have friends that hit both sides of the scale and I just believe that if you have to walk around talking about yourself all the time, then it's you that has the problem with you, not the rest of the world. When Monique came out on the Queens of Comedy with the "Skinny B's are Evil" bit, it was funny. When she talked about being heavy and still being sexy I applauded her. But umpteen years later with the exact same shyt coming out of your mouth every single time we see you just gets to be a bit much!!! Personally, I like watching the Parkers because on that show she just WAS diva'd out and she knew it and her character didn't have to talk about it every 5 dayum minutes! Maybe if the movie were titled something else and had at least 3/4 of the "yeah I'm fat" subject matter taken out more of us would have went to see it. Hey, I think Monique is hella funny, but after hearing the same crap over and over again, the shyt just ain't funny no mo!

Comment: MER82: Certainly you are not suggesting that Phat girls would have been nominated and won anything. If the only choices are Hood Movies and Phat Girl movies then I won't support any of it. There are other stories that are told (not enough) and seemingly anything with substance is completely left out of the equation.
